ParticipantYou want a sport bike but you don’t want a Ninja, eh? Well, I have to agree with Weapon Zero that your chosen bike is not a good choice for a beginner. Sorry, I know that’s not what you want to hear but maybe you should think about it some more. Hey, I wanted a Triumph Bonneville right off the bat so I totally understand, but I came to my senses because of this website.
My advice is don’t be in such a hurry to have the coolest dream bike, the way I thought about it was, I am going to buy a brand new Triumph which was like $9000.00 and what if I drop it or get in an accident and then it’s scratched up and dented – I would have been PISSED OFF. So I got a used thing with a lot less power and I’m going to ride it into the ground and it is plenty to handle.
You will not get bored of your 250 or 500 in 3 days, trust me. Please rethink you decision. Plus, I have heard of people buying these nice sport bikes and then being afraid of their own power and they end up storing it and buying a 250!
Good luck, I’m sure others will have lots to say on this.

ParticipantThere are more fees than just sales tax. They charge for your delivery of the bike to their facility even though it’s already sitting there, I was quite shocked as well and it’s like $1000.00 or something ridiculous. Then there is some other stuff, I forget now what they are exactly. Some places even charged these fees for used bikes, yikes. Just tell them you give them $4500 out the door.

ParticipantIf anyone is interested I received this email/petition this morning:
Hello everyone,
I’m sure that by now you have all heard about the woman that was killed while at a stoplight by a driver in a cage painting her fingernails and not even paying attention to the road. As of right now, the driver is receiving a $75.00 ticket. How absurd!!! If you killed someone, anyone you need to go to jail! She should be getting involuntary manslaughter, at least in my opinion. I’m sure over the years we all know someone, or at least have heard of someone, that was killed by the negligence of a driver. As motorcycle enthusiast we all face that danger when we ride.As the link explains we need to get Congress involved. The link is: ; http://www.petitiononline.com/sabiker/petition.html
Please forward this to every motorcycle enthusiast you know!!
Thanks

ParticipantNo story to tell, yet. Knock on wood. I had kids do that to me but I was driving my parents SUV (I was about 17), I slammed on the breaks, did a u-turn and chased those little buggers down I was so mad but they got away as they were on foot and ran behind some houses. I think I gave them a good scare though, HA! Glad you were able to tell the parents and that you were ok.

ParticipantI am glad this question was asked because I was wondering the same thing. I have been using engine breaking a lot lately and as I was doing it I was thinking, oh geez, I wonder if I’m ruining my engine or something. Glad that I’m not and I’ll keep using it!

ParticipantIt’s not just the construction people, it’s everyone! Economy is bad and now the drinking starts earlier too because everyone’s hours got cut! I notice it even on Thursdays now. Luckily (must look on the sunny side of things!) my hours got cut one hour per day so now I get to leave at 230pm so I can take my moto to work still on Fridays because everyone is not drunk yet when I leave for home. Unless they started on lunch.

ParticipantThat is a very nice looking bike, love the red color and the picturesque view. Ok, I will work on my assignment tomorrow!

ParticipantDefinitely good advice above – pull over and relax for a minute. Last season in my newness I kept running out of gas so I’d come to a stop light and then couldn’t figure out why my bike died and won’t start! OMG! I would totally start to panic, so pulling over and taking a deep breath allowed me to think, DAH, turn on your reserve and go to the gas station! I think your bike is probably fine, you just need to get a feel for it since it’s new for you. In the beginning I would give it some gas, release the clutch (slowly) and then I would stall because I wasn’t going fast enough.

ParticipantMakes me want to ride my Suzuki right over to the HD dealership right now and see what happens! I have to say that before I bought my current bike, I stopped by 2 HD dealerships to look and the one in Tinley Park, IL was really cool, the sales guy was really nice and helpful and actually gave me the number to a dealership that was not Harley because he didn’t have any 650cc or under that I was looking for. At the other HD dealership in Joliet, IL they didn’t even acknowledge my existence in their store. I wonder if it’s because I was with my brother and he was on a Yamaha??? Who knows, all I know is I would not go back to that one.
I say ride your Suzuki to the HD dealership and don’t even worry about it.

ParticipantIt’s freezing in Illinois. Usually I ride in 50 degree weather which we had over the weekend but 50 felt cold just standing there in the sun so I didn’t take the bike out and now it’s in the 30’s. Well, it’s suppose to go up to 60 in a couple of days so I’ll take it out then, can’t WAIT!

Participantfuh2.com is all I have to say.
Oh and that I’m glad you are ok.
