CandiceParticipant
Hmm, I can’t find it. Woops. Well, anyways, it’s a Suzuki GS650G circa 1982. It has 4977 miles on it and no rust. It’s taller and longer than my Suzuki LS650 Savage and a lot faster, holy smokes. The savage only had one cyclinder and the GS650G has 4 cylinders. I really like it, I am going to have a lot of fun in the spring. I have to put new tires on it, a windshield, and some bags. Here is a link so you can see what the bike looks like:

I AM SO EXCITED!
CandiceParticipantHey Elwood!
I am technologically impaired, I’m workin’ on it – one moment please.CandiceParticipantI was considering the Bonneville for my 2nd bike, I think an 800cc bike for somone’s first bike is not the best idea. And I just bought my second bike yesterday and it’s a 650cc 4 cylinder. Bonnie can wait. I decided it’s not the best value for the price. You can get a Yamaha 1100 with bags, windshield and all that included for less than the bonnie with no goodies. I test drove one though, it was fun.
CandiceParticipantYou made an excellent choice for your first bike. I have a 2003 Savage which is now called the Bouldevard S40. The people in my riding group call my bike Thumper and it is a thumper but it was great to learn on, pretty darn forgiving of my mistakes and I was told that these bikes are bullet proof.
My bike came with a “lovely melted black nylon patch” from the previous owner so now yours just looks like you use it! No problem. A couple of scratches only gives the bike character anyways.
Have fun, ride safe!
CandiceParticipantThe shop (Willy World in Joliet) also told me my idle was way too low, they turned it up. They also took apart the pep cock or something that has to do with the fuel going somewhere, sorry, I’m not mechanical. Anyways, they said there was nothing going on there. They did not say anything about leaking oil. My bike is a 2003. I’m in Joliet, who did you take your bike to? I might call them up.
CandiceParticipantI’m glad I don’t live in NYC. I live in the Chicago area and I won’t ride on I-94 going into the city, too many crazies on that highway.
CandiceParticipantI travel Route 66 everyday in the Joliet, IL area. It’s probably prettier on the Oklahoma stretch.
CandiceParticipantGood job, both of you!
I had a girlfriend get into the class this past weekend and she didn’t finish. First of all, she dropped the bike with herself on it in the first hour and half, she’s fine. She was a trooper and said she wanted to get back on but the bike’s front break lever was broken from her fall. They had one bike available to give her and it was too big, she couldn’t get her leg over. They should have had her switch with someone, I’m sure they could have worked something out but they didn’t help her out at all. She also said it was so hot and everyone was sweating so badly that they weren’t feeling good and there was no break for 2 hours to get a drink of water. It was quite hot on Saturday in Chicago, so anyways, she dropped out but she is going to try to get in somewhere else.
CandiceParticipantI would say you just let the bag go. I don’t want you, me, or anyone else getting into an accident trying to figure out what to do with this bag. Trying to predict the moves of those bags is real hard. I don’t have a windshield so I’m always afraid it will land on my face shield and blind me, momentarily at least.
CandiceParticipant4200 miles under my belt, still on my first bike which is a Suzuki SAVAGE LS650 2003, been riding since last Labor Day weekend. Have been sitting on a lot of bikes trying to see if there is anything I like better than the Triumph Bonneville SE, so far, nothing. Have to buy the hubby a camping van before I can get a new bike so that’s fine because the longer I stay on my current bike the better I think.
CandiceParticipantI’ve had my bike in the shop 3 times for this, they can’t find a darn thing wrong with it. Try running your bike on RESERVE instead of ON. I have been doing this and my bike doesn’t die now. I can’t beleive you have the EXACT same problem I do. The shop thought I was crazy.
Oh, I also have that same oil leak, too weird.
CandiceParticipantGood Luck! I think you will pass as you know the drill now. Relax and enjoy!
CandiceParticipantI do care about the environment, I don’t think people should use the world as their own personal ash tray or garbage can, we do that already with our “contained” garbages that leak poisonous chemicals into our drinking water, etc, etc. So, people could at LEAST, please, don’t throw your garbages out of the car windows to fall on your fellow human riding behind you, thank you!
CandiceParticipantI was thinking it could be the AC’s water dripping. I have also encountered drips from some unknown place while riding. Could be anything, just don’t think about it too much. If you see a porto potty truck stay far, far away.
CandiceParticipantI bought a pair of textile motorcycle pants with a liner that is removable. They go right over my jeans so I can just take them off and stick them in my saddle bags. Lately I have been bad and just riding in jeans because it’s been hot but I am looking forward to wearing them in the mornings soon when it starts to get cool. I did wear them to the gym the other Saturday morning, it was awesome because I wore my workout pants under the motorcycle pants and it was so easy to slip them off and voila – time to workout, no changing.
