ParticipantThis is unbelievable and sad, I’ll be watching my back at stop lights for sure now and never in neutral.

ParticipantThat woman is going to do time for vehicular manslaughter because doing her nails was more important than driving.

ParticipantYep!
Posted this somewhere in this forum or so.
I’m still waiting to see more about this. If I get stuck on this jury duty… Someone’s in trouble!

ParticipantI seriously doubt that a defense attorney would allow the jury to include anyone who rides. Sorry!

ParticipantIf anyone is interested I received this email/petition this morning:
Hello everyone,
I’m sure that by now you have all heard about the woman that was killed while at a stoplight by a driver in a cage painting her fingernails and not even paying attention to the road. As of right now, the driver is receiving a $75.00 ticket. How absurd!!! If you killed someone, anyone you need to go to jail! She should be getting involuntary manslaughter, at least in my opinion. I’m sure over the years we all know someone, or at least have heard of someone, that was killed by the negligence of a driver. As motorcycle enthusiast we all face that danger when we ride.As the link explains we need to get Congress involved. The link is: ; http://www.petitiononline.com/sabiker/petition.html
Please forward this to every motorcycle enthusiast you know!!
Thanks

ParticipantSigned. I see the same thing with bicycles all the time — if the person had been on foot, the driver would have gotten the book. But since the victim was on only 2 wheels (motor or not), they’re fair game.

ParticipantYou still go to jail if you kill somebody with your car due to negligence. It’s typically reserved for drunk drivers, but there’s probably a good case here. She hit someone who was very clearly marked, and has admitted to doing things she wasn’t supposed to be doing. A prosecutor shouldn’t have a hard time with this case.

ParticipantThe consequences of an illegal act have always factored into the charges. After all, isn’t that what manslaughter is? You did something stupid but it ended up killing someone. Big difference between that and just the stupid part.
What I don’t understand is the reluctance to charge her with manslaughter. Unless they are just going through the due process waiting for the crash scene investigation to be complete. Don’t see the need myself for Congress to get involved. Unless there is more to the story than that article let on.
