Participantfrom the Egyptians…. He who dies with the most toys… still can’t take them with him. Looted 1000 years later , yes…but take with you personally…..nu uh.
Put value in the people around you and memories that you have and make. Those are timeless.Yesterday is a memory, tomorrow is a prediction, but today…… is a Bi**h

ParticipantSorry to hear your having a time with your “friends”. One phrase you’ll hear in MSF over and over, or should “RIDE YOUR OWN RIDE” this goes for skill set, bike choice, etc. Is it their money, is it their safety , hell is it even their insurance if , god forbid, something bad happens. How about their guilt… will they even stop to think long enough that their very amount of peer pressure could have put you in such a situation? If it were me personally- if they are more concerned about the size of the bike then your comfort and safety, I would point them towards the door and look to new friends.
Don’t give up your hopes of riding just because the IQ of the people around you extend about as far as your middle finger would when you salute them for their opinions. Its YOUR money, YOUR comfort and YOUR safety. Enough said. No need in arguing with them …its pointless and your decision…as some would say……

ParticipantIf Ducati is supposed to be the performance masters that they claim they may be more engineered to “go” then to “travel” Meaning the difference between say a tricked out Honda compared to a Camry used to commute.
talking to some people at the MSF course Ducati’s were meant more for straight away take off speed and not so much as some of its competitors in turns. Would atleast explain to me why they would say that.
If you have a wet clutch system I would definitely use the clutch as a control mechanism …. the reason its lubricated is for life and heat reduction to reduce wear by leaps and bounds against dry clutches, which use friction plates and heat like your brakes to produce the desired effect.Yesterday is a memory, tomorrow is a prediction, but today…… is a Bi**h

ParticipantMaybe if you managed to pick up bad gas. Mine happened after I got the lo-jack installed…tech thought he retightened the connectors for the battery but missed it. Quick tightening and I haven’t had a problem since.
The way it acted was I could get it started and usually around 2nd gear or some jostling it would start bucking like it was running outta gas… immediate attempts to restart acted like it was choking itself out.. Leave it alone for a couple of mins ( vibrations ceasing) and it would start right back up ..then eventually have the same problem. To save money for you and piece of mind I really suggest checking connections. I am lucky as my dealer is awesome and even came to pick up my bike and drop it back off after the repair. Free of charge!!!!Yesterday is a memory, tomorrow is a prediction, but today…… is a Bi**h

ParticipantAs in brand new? You change anything? Also just for grins check battery connection… I had a similar problem in abou t the same mileage span… mine was a loos connection for the battery… had good enough connection for start up and a good run until a bump got hit, or vibrations expanded the gap enough to create a high resistance situation to choke out the fuel pump. Probly not the answer but a good start for a bike that new is to walk through owners manual in hand and check all connections and fasteners.

ParticipantNow yay!! your alive and only bruised….now my only question from the playback. …. was the emotion of the morning in you head more then the ride?(assuming I understand the statement). I learned a looooong time ago, especially being a crazy arsed country boy, to not get behind anything motorized unless my head was ” in the game”. Oddly enough I am a contradicition to a MSF point. Being that if your wreckless in a car your likely to continue the habit on a bike…. for me its been the reverse… I am super cautious on my bike and it has moved over to the car. During my divorce I was brutal on my truck, neoghbors thought I was doing the truck version of a Dukes of Hazzard scene. Being mad, upset or even distracted by ” I wish I had done this instead” thoughts can very much make you blind to the split second decisions you could of made earlier.
If this was not an issue for you … grats!
If it was…. you have so been warned for the next time…. and BTW…. you still get no drink :^) . Alcohol for any scratches…but not the drinking kind.Yesterday is a memory, tomorrow is a prediction, but today…… is a Bi**h

ParticipantConcerning cruisers and leg room. You can find great sites like Scootworks.com and be able to find “kits” to relocate you forward controls , well, further in front of you.
I am not a fan of the sitting of sportbikes and standards so I don not know if they offer the same. I have seen a sportbike rider get really stretched out on the bike though, I am assuming he was using the pegs for the passenger though… looked like he was to be superman.BTW, scootoworks is a local vendor for me, kinda proud we have someone around that lends customizing options for metric cruisers. They even have a Vulcan 500 they dressed up in their project bike section. I think I may take some of their ideas for my 500, I like the drag bar look and definitely gonna get the belt drive conversion.

ParticipantI knew I wanted a bike and wasn’t sure what to get…I knew Harleys were generally to big for me to learn on and others I just weren’t interested in . I am a cruiser person and there wasn’t good info locally about anything in that style… sport bike out the wazoo… cruisers not so much. After feeding in a search BBM came up in the results. Its how I found my bike… fortunately Ben had done a review on the Vulcan 500 . I was sold. Gladly I read more and more and even felt better about getting the 500 after reading that cruisers were “underpowered” in comparison to their sporty counterparts. So I stuck around read more… got to like a couple of ya and have been watching every since.
Now I look forward to seeing stories about adventures and rides and lessons learned. I also stick around due to the mature and reasonable nature of it’s members. Though sometimes some heated debates and jabs happen in the end after all the posturing…rarely for more then a day someone if not both sides come to terms to agree to disagree. The board moves on. This is a rare thing to find in any Forum.
Folks theres alot of good information on here… alot of points of views. This forum and group will have alot of good information at a constant and good insight from varying opinions as long as we all remember that each individual is entitled to their opinions….no matter how screwed up it….. just kidding.
Looking forward to reading alot about adventures as some of us continue to grow even out of the “beginner” status to atleast learned. Then we can all in turn help Ben help others as he has helped us.Yesterday is a memory, tomorrow is a prediction, but today…… is a Bi**h

ParticipantNothing better to hear then a person and their bike fitting together well. I am glad that the size of the bike not good for the average beginners has been well beaten to death, and when there was a pulse… got a good swift kick for good measure.
That being said… I am glad to see that you have taken your time to learn and fully enjoying the bike in a safe manner. Am always coming back to look for your adventures to see if they mirror my own or maybe pick up something that I have yet to come across as I do with everyone else. Hope your rides are always productive and you keep sharing your adventures with us.Side note: No need to add disclaimers to your choices and decisions… if someone should ever decide that what you said is the end all be all…. they already had their mind made up and you are in no way liable. In no way other then holding a gun to their head for the decision making process will you ever be liable for their decision poor or not….even then its questionable.
