it’s making me want to say F it about riding! I’ve been getting into arguements all darn week about what bike I want to get. it’s my dam money and if I want to get a moped for my first bike so be it! Everyone keeps saying that I’m going to waste my money getting an 250r, you’ll get bored, you’ll want a bigger bike within a week, I know about bikes and you need to listen to me, etc. I keep telling them that I rather “waste” my money on a smaller bike than to bring a greater risk to my life with a bigger bike. The only time I rode a bike was in 2004 when I took the class, they kicked my out because I kept shifting to 5th gear. That was the first and last time I’ve rode a bike alone. And another time my partner rode me on his bike and went so darn fast that I almost crap my pants. He thought it was funny scarring me like that but he scared me so bad that I didn’t want to even look at a bike. Now I finially have the courage to ride and ppl are mad because I want an 250r. Like, are you f’$%&ing serious! This is really rainy on my parade. I was so happy that I passed my permit test and will be attending the classs on the 1st, now I’m ready to say forget the whole thing. I tried to explain that if this is what I feel comfortable in doing then so be it. I’m not harming no one by getting a smaller bike. I’ll be harming myself more if I let some one talk me into getting a bigger bike knowing that I’m afraid. I want to cry but I’m at work and I don’t want to ruin my eye make up. Why can’t they just leave me be? I didn’t ask the for their advice any way and if I did, why beat me up because I said I want to start out small? Do you tell a child, no honey you don’t need training wheels just hop on that ten speed. I’m so pissed.
Sorry if there are mispelled words or incomplete sentences, I’m so angry.
September 29, 2008 at 10:04 pm #12978briderdtParticipant…and didn’t ask their opinion, I’d have a real hard time not telling them to f%^& off… And if it’s sales people, it’s probably because they don’t HAVE any 250r’s in stock (I’ve yet to see one on a shop floor) and want you to buy what they DO have. Feel free to walk out the door and not return.
Use your money how you want, and to hell with any one else.
September 29, 2008 at 10:40 pm #12982megaspazParticipantDon’t sweat it. it’s your money, your feelings, get what you feel most comfortable with. If they don’t like it, get new friends. You don’t need people pissing in your cereal.

One phrase you’ll hear in MSF over and over, or should “RIDE YOUR OWN RIDE” this goes for skill set, bike choice, etc. Is it their money, is it their safety , hell is it even their insurance if , god forbid, something bad happens. How about their guilt… will they even stop to think long enough that their very amount of peer pressure could have put you in such a situation? If it were me personally- if they are more concerned about the size of the bike then your comfort and safety, I would point them towards the door and look to new friends.
Don’t give up your hopes of riding just because the IQ of the people around you extend about as far as your middle finger would when you salute them for their opinions. Its YOUR money, YOUR comfort and YOUR safety. Enough said. No need in arguing with them …its pointless and your decision…as some would say……
“Do not argue with idiots, they will just drag you down to their level and beat you with experience”Yesterday is a memory, tomorrow is a prediction, but today…… is a Bi**h
September 29, 2008 at 10:57 pm #12985bob250ParticipantTell anyone giving you a hard time to go eat a shit sandwich. You won’t get bored with a 250. You will get +60mpg. You will have fun. You will learn to ride safe. The only way i would get a bigger bike is if someone else bought it for me.
September 29, 2008 at 11:11 pm #12987ReindeerParticipantDon’t waste your time arguing with people… it’s a pointless pursuit that will only take your energy, discourage you, and create ill feelings with others. Get the bike that YOU feel comfortable with. If you want a Ninja 250r, then get a Ninja 250r… simple as that. If in 6 months or a year you get bored with it, sell it and get another. If on the other hand a 500 is more to your liking, get that instead. The point is to get a motorcycle that fits YOUR needs, wants, and abilities.
I agree with the others… if your friends or S.O. can’t handle it, time to get a new set of friends and new S.O. You don’t need that kind of bullshit in your life.
September 29, 2008 at 11:39 pm #12989BuddParticipantPeople told me the same thing and then the same people mistook my bike for the 500.

September 30, 2008 at 12:26 am #12993AmorylParticipanttruth is 250’s won’t lose you money, look at all the craigslist adds for 250’s going at or above retail and still being sold. you can buy one, and sell it off for what you paid, even more if you’re willing to wait for the proper time (beginning of the season rather than the end)
mopeds rock, btw, have you EVER seen an angry person on a moped? EVER? you can’t help but smile on one of those.
clearly you need to hang out with us, we’re cool, we support your choice to buy a bike thats safe for you.
September 30, 2008 at 12:50 am #13001ranetteParticipantJust do what I did!
Before anyone has a coronary, no, don’t buy the bike I bought. But do what I did and buy the bike that you want; you’re the one gonna be riding it.
September 30, 2008 at 5:11 am #13023Bianca30Participantfor making me feel better. I’m sorry I was being a big baby about the situation, I was just pissed. I love this feeling that I’m having about riding and everytime I smile and say guess what i passed my permit test, I’m taking the class soon, that’s when they start with the mess! And I’ll tell them why i want to start small and they act like i said I want to ride backwards on the bike. You’re right, I shouldn’t let then get to me. Thank you sooooo much guys for your support, I feel blessed to have yens(yes I’m from Pittsburgh = ) and we say yens) guys. So no more pouting from me. I’m going to attend class on the 1st and be happy! I just won’t talk to them anymore about my bike. Big hugs to all of you. = )
September 30, 2008 at 5:20 am #13024JimParticipantPunch them in the throat….and then go out and buy a 250 and run over their toes.
Ok Ben who is the Bikes n Babes hottie in the ad
>September 30, 2008 at 1:30 pm #13029AndrewParticipantGet the bike you want. If they are not buying it or riding it there opinion doesn’t count. Most of them probably haven’t ridden a Ninja anyway so they are regurgitating the same crap the salesmen do.
September 30, 2008 at 4:26 pm #13049AnonymousGuestJust say, “Thank you. I have taken your advice into consideration and I have decided to go with the 250r.”
September 30, 2008 at 4:36 pm #13051WeaponZeroParticipantThe 250R is an excellent bike for you. I can’t promise you won’t want to upgrade someday as many people do. But it’ll be a long time coming, and you’ll have a lot of fun on your 250R and I promise I won’t ride too fast for you Contrary to popular belief I am not a reckless rider. The fastest I’ve taken my SV650 up to is ~95mph and that was once on the interstate when traffic was moving at about ~80-85.
I have a neighbor who owns a black 250R who hasn’t ridden it in weeks for some reason. She’s a girl who’s about 5’3″ tall who accidentally dropped it 3 days after she bought it while trying to pull it into her driveway (first bike, no MSF course) and she hasn’t ridden it since. It’s been gathering dust and rain in her driveway for the past 2 months now. And yes it is an ’08.
September 30, 2008 at 11:13 pm #13067Bianca30Participantwants to sell her bike will you let me know?
