Now I got that dang song in my head…. grrrr…. lol.
and what he said ^^^MunchParticipantGuess like anything else….the officials can’t agree so it’s left to preference.
MunchParticipantI got one myself… the nice red one. Still use it for really bad weather and the bike can’t go. Its the Z34 package. You still getting around 35-38 mpg with yours?
MunchParticipant:^) double filament bulb… placing is not important.
MunchParticipantMost cars use the low beams for DRL’s some have an independant light all together (reference Tahoes and suburbans) Some use a small insert bulb in the headlight housing just for the reflected light and not actually a beam ( some Acura’s and BMW).
DRL’s on bikes are mandatory but highbeams are preached for daytime use. Everyone form instructor, Department of Motor Vehicles and even local law dawgs will tell you to use them. The logic is that of the same that NHSB used to push DRL’s on modern day auto’s. That yellow jacket , cool or not, is not gonna make you visible in a low hanging sun… or when oncoming traffic is adjusting from shade to sun or vice versa. If it bothers drivers while you are behind them, they have options…. learn and use the flip pedal on the bottom of the mirror to redirect the glare, or change lanes. Your safety is your responsibility and concern and should be foremost so …not the drivers ahead comfort level.MunchParticipantMaybe they believe in natural selection?
I have lived in Houston… dealt with the 610 traffic jams and nightmares…. oh and maybe 5th Ward is also on their minds…
Helmet legislation tends to take a backseat when typical business traffic allows for 30 mph or less travel but #1 on the list for your public protectors is to send a flyer out every 4th July reminding residents not to fire their guns in the air or to not flash your headlights at an oncoming car that may not have theirs on.MunchParticipanto/
MunchParticipantWhat …you mean there is 2 of us here in the triangle that can navigate the web? Well if I ever see ya on 40 know I am likely one of the few to wave. Where’d ya get the MSF? I am taking it through Ray Price …shortest waiting list. Anyway , howdy . BTW I am a dieing breed here…. NC native.
MunchParticipantWell the gas savings are in my favor… my commute is 36 miles one way my cage is a 99 Monte Carlo gets about 28 mpg…. 24 if theres a good song on the radio. Using $4 a gallon as an example it costs me $48 to fill up, and I get around 225-250 miles to the tank. Now my Vulcan… 4gallon tank but I only use the 3 cause well…. I am a chicken to trust the reserve., get about 150-165 miles to the tank on the Vulcan… again with music varies. So thats $12 against $48 …but we will add another $12 to push 2 fill ups to the one in the Monte…. $24 for 300 miles vs. $48 for 250 ( with a tail wind and bad music)…. DING DING …WE HAVE A WINNER!!
I am more fortunate though in the maintenance area, I work for a tire company and get serious discounts when I need tires and the maintenance, well after I use up the program through the dealer, Being a auto mechanic I can just get the manuals and knock it out myself .
And accessories…. well lets just say lesson learned from my Jeeping days. (Just Empty Every Pocket , is more a warning then joke)MunchParticipantI know here in my locale its very dependent on where you are. Majority of the time though all the traditional lines of prejudice have gone to the way side. Most people here that are HD owners are Lawyers, Dr’s, etc. … so the usual die hard fanatics are slowly going to the wayside with age. I have a Vulcan …love it ….don’t really care what others think. Popular response though from all sorts is that its a beautiful bike and get welcomed to the riding community. Are you concerned about catching flack from a Chevy owner about owning a Ford? Then why worry about the bike? And yes I live in an area with deep traditions. You ride with the confidence , attitude, safety and respect….the Bike your on is nothing more then a ticket into a great community.
added: Only one division that runs deep here is sport bike and cruiser riders. Mainly due to the the “squids” that run through traffic at 100 mph and a seemingly monthly source of bike wrecks. Unfortunately they are the ever decreasing (natural selection) minority, the bad ones leave a bad taste in the mouths of the cruiser riders ( tendency here is that cruiser riders are more mature and responsible). However alot of us are blurring those lines too. Alot more mix groups are riding and waving together.
MunchParticipantPossible some of it could have something to do with the emissions. Same reason why alot of vehicles are available overseas and not here in the US. Chrysler barely squeaked by with some of their vehicles and some BMW’s actually had to apply for a waiver to be acceptable via EPA. From my understand California and parts of Colorado no longer allow 2stroke engines because of their air quality laws. Maybe someone could do a check ?
MunchParticipanterm…. Each point of view was given, everyone comes to a different conclusion and the person that asked got well enough information to make up HIS/HER own mind. Why not leave it at that? I love this site because its full of good and varying information. Please don’t turn it into a forum full of flaming and “debates” that get personal. I’d hate to see the nonsensical banter go on here that drove me away from the Off-road forums i used to frequent.
MunchParticipantAfter 5oo+ miles on my bike I got gas near my work, halfway down the highway she shut down on me…. after safely managing a 2 lane merge to the shoulder under no power I tried to fire her back up…nothing…. kept trying then she sputtered to an idle… open throttle a bit…choked out. Opened the choke thinkin maybe I managed to flood it somehow in cranking…. thing went wide open, after quick shut down did the same thing but this time experimented with the throttle, which choked it down for a second or two then went wide open…. pushed down to half choke and started running better,,,,,,eventually got to where she ran normal for the rest of the tank. 2nd fill up at same gas station ….. new symptom…… through each gear she would buck and kick …grrrrr luckily I was at 500 mile mark and needed to get check up done…. also lucky I paid for the maintenance program.
Conclusion…. gas station had mixed diesel by accident with their regular, which is really odd since they don’t sell diesel.
You can try using a product called Sea Foam to help stabilize and clean some of the gas up in the tank already especially since she is idling. Or drain and use Sea Foam or similar product to do some non invasive and probly needed help anyways.August 11, 2008 at 11:47 pm in reply to: Friend wants brand new GSXR for first bike and won’t listen to reason. How do I prevent her from making a serious mistake? #10340MunchParticipantI tell all the muscle heads at my auto shop that I work with that want the ultimate rice burner or even the new Amercan-ish made muscle cars.
300hp and 100 hp move at the same rate of speed when you are driving everyday commutes. Speed limits tend to cap that out.
Don’t believe me…. challenge them to a drag race down the road, as they jump you off the light call the local county mounty and report a wreckless driver . Kind of tough love but it works.Oh yea , don’t forget to wave at them as you go across the finish line before them at or a touch above posted speed limit.
MunchParticipantlooks like a theme park ride shuttle more then something I would ride on the streets. Whole lot of stuff screaming” scratch me” on it. Some other wild designs can be seen from victory bikes. One of em looks straight out of the Rocketman comic books.
