ParticipantYou know you’re a motorcycle geek when you have more riding gear then street/dress clothes.

Participantit’s there…..and welcome back.

Participantwell for the size of the pics…looks like it turns out great.

ParticipantI hope then that they tinted the shades in that model then they did on the IS-33. Otherwise you will still be putting those sunglasses on. Gonna stop by car store today and pick up some tint to darken mine.

ParticipantMy concern wouldn’t be the parts rather more of 1) the age… if it was a car its a legitimate classic. 2) how many previous owners? and recorded provable history. 3) make sure , if your not, have mechanics available that are knowledgeable with that particular model. Even though it doen’t look like it has changed over the years you can bet it has.

ParticipantAlthough you can use your body in turning you will want to learn proper turning, via the big bad mysterious counter steering. Weight really only becomes a factor in slow speed maneuvers (2nd gear or lower) and should they day come when you pick it up off its side.

Participantwell if that doesn’t work … you can always de badge it and go to some “decal” sites and get you some graphics over it. I have seen plenty tastefully done.

ParticipantIf they are superficial one of the bike rags recommends to use ..of all things…Corn meal . Personally I don’t have that patience. Where the word located..top, side? You can look into bike leather sites and get a cover..some even have a nice lil pocket on ’em.
So who around you has just broken up with their boyfriend? Neighbor? Be my guess someone mistook the addresses…..unless like me your out on your lonesome . In which case probly some nut job 1%’er thinking they were being funny.Munch
Participantbraking and clutching to a stop… thats situational and preferrence. If I know I will come to a complete stop I got ahead and clutch in drop all the way to first as I brake. If your not sure about the full stop…..shift your way down, just incase you gotta turn and burn again.
Riding and shifting via engine rev is going to be the natural way to go. It is also much safer then trying to stare at your tach. It’s not like a video game where you have to hit in the green area before it goes red or anything. You’ll get the feel of it from practice.Munch
ParticipantFor cruisers… the V500 is a great bike to start with. At 6′ 1″ it might come in a touch small. Forward controls can be had to help it fit. My uncle started on the Shadow 750 and it is a bit larger then the V500. With your mindset and you stick to it, I see no problems with it being a viable first for you.
Take the MSF first and foremost. It’s a smaller investment to see if you even like riding. After that , butt tests are next.Munch
ParticipantSaw it, read it, decided to leave it alone. Though appreciate you taking up the call Ranette. It’s a constant thing and me personally I ride with anyone. Wether it be another person that rides a lazy boy or old man bike, or a sporty/crotch rocket that likes to ride w/ that super man feeling, or even dual sports that seem not to be able to make up their minds what turf suits them. We all anjoy the same things.
Being that cruisers have been around longer and have a emphasis on cruising and not taking off at neck break speeds (though some can, twist my 9 to hard and you’ll pull a neck muscle) and have a larger variety for displacements generally make it a “GoTo” style bike for learners. Standards are among those to.
My advice to the Lil’ lady is to take her to do what most (not all) women love doing most…… shop! Have her go to bike shops with ya, make her butt test everything. Heck even gives you a chance to oggle at all the bling and leather yourself. My youngest daughter jumps at every chance to go with me to the bike store. Every time we walk in she makes the odd statement of how she likes the way the place smells. If I ask if she wants to ride, she has her helmet on before I can even get my keys.
So get HER to butt test, narrow down the viable options and make her research em. Also don’t forget to ask the Service dept. what can be done to get the bike to fit her better. Not the sales guy , the Service guys.Munch
ParticipantGratssssssssss! (dancing wit ya)
