JimParticipant
Been eyeing a SV650 or a Ninja 650 in 2 or 3 years.
JimParticipantHe forgot to mention not waving at the scooters
JimParticipantWoohoo…free is good! I’m excited for you, and thanks for your service. Have fun on that Ninja.
JimParticipantIn sixth gear I cruise at 60-65 mph and the tach is at about 6000-7000 on my 250.
JimParticipantLike they say, only bikers know why dogs hang their heads out the window of cars…or something like that. Good luck with the MSF, it is fun and a good confidence builder.
JimParticipantI have that same bike, it is a 2006 also. I bought it new from the dealer 2 months ago for $2800. Not sure why it was still at the dealers for 2 years, but the 2008 were backordered so I bought this one, It’s a great beginners bike, I love mine and my skills are expanding quickly on this easy to ride bike. I think he is stretching the truth a bit on the MPG, I’m getting around 55 on mine, and that is keeping it under 6000 RPM during the break in.
JimParticipantI bought my first bike in May of this year , a 2006 Kawasaki Ninja 250 with 6 miles on it. I just cracked 500 miles on the odometer, having so much fun on it!
JimParticipantA guy I know at work has been noticing me and my new bike habit . He was driving by and saw me taking the MSF class last month. He emailed me yesterday and told me he took the MSF and got his motorcycle endorsement. So I emailed back when we going bike shopping! I think he needs wifey’s approval before he makes that next step.
JimParticipantNow lets make the cagers take a class on not driving like a-holes. My friend at work got in his first wreck yesterday on his Harley, Blue hair pulled out in front of him into his lane of traffic. Luckily he was able to get his bike slowed down enough when he hit her car that he wasn’t hurt too badly. His bike is messed up pretty bad and he his lucyk he wasn’t hurt worse than his knees messed up since he doesn’t wear a helmet.
JimParticipantI’m 5′ 6″, same height as you and can flat foot my Ninja 250 at a light. I got to tell you the 250 is just the perfect size bike for someone my size. It just feels “right and perfect” when I’m on it, not so heavy that I feel like its hard to hold up. I have a 2006, one of the “ugly ones” *wink wink megaspaz* so not sure if the 2008 are any bigger.
JimParticipantI tell you the wind can sure blow my 250 around though when riding. A good gust can really be felt on such a light bike.
JimParticipantI bought this Joe Rocket jacket http://www.joerocket.com/productJR.cfm?products_id=1722 . It breaks down nicely in hot weather (95 here now and I still can wear it comfortably) , with the arms and torso breaking down to just a mesh. It has shoulder, elbow and a back spine protector which is removable. I’m pretty happy with it.
JimParticipantWhen you go home, stay off I-95! Crazy maniacs on that road. I grew up in Boca. Good luck on picking out your first bike! Get and wear gear and know your limits.
JimParticipantMinimum coverage, Ninja 250, age 44, 1 traffic ticket, $109 for a whole year. You might even not be able to get insurance on a bike through your regular car insurance company. My car insurance will not cover bikes no how no way, I had to go online through Progressive.
JimParticipantI bought my first bike last month (Ninja 250) and like you I had no experience on a motorcycle except a couple dirt bike rides 30 years ago. I’m lucky in that I have a big empty parking lot by my condo so I rode around there and around the small neighborhoods in my area for a week or so before I ventured out in traffic. Know you limits, learn how your bike handles take a riders class and wear your gear. You are going to love it!
