I was also wondering if you had any riding experience before your first bike? and megaspaz i was wondering if it was hard to start on the sv650. Because that is a big bike, i just didn’t know if you had and troubles with it?

I had no riding experience before taking the MSF. The only trouble I had with the bike in the beginning was slow tight turns/uturns and going slow in general. Bikes tend to do better when they’re moving and not going slow. Dropped my bike twice the first 2 days I had it coming to stops.

My first bike is a Virago 250. I’ve had it since March 1 of this year.

you already had the sliders installed, right?

250R still need holes drilled and stuff welded to them to get sliders :(

    but yeah, 08 250R

Nope didn’t have sliders. This was before I got the lower fairings. The only damage done was on the end of the throttle side handle bar and the tip of the brake lever broke off. That was the first time I dropped it. Both times I dropped my bike it was pretty much at a stop, so the only damage occurred the first time I dropped it. The second time I dropped it, the damage that was there was pretty much from the first drop.

Edit: FYI. Suzuki has 2 types of sliders. If you don’t have lower fairings, there are frame sliders. If you do have lower fairings, they call them chassis protecters. Chassis protectors don’t work without the lower fairings and frame sliders do not work with the lower fairings installed.

My first bike was United Motors 250T (the same bike as a Hyosung GV250). I rode it a couple of months until my wife discovered she enjoyed riding, so I gave it to her an purchased a Vulcan 500 for me.
My first attempt at riding a bike was on my brother-in-law’s Vulcan Nomad 1600… DON’T start on a bike that large, or it may scare you into not riding. ;)

I had zero experience as well. From being around motorcycles I knew where everything was, but that was about it.

My first bike was a Raleigh Chopper which was pretty much a British “Schwinn Stingray”. Does that date me? :)

But seriously, my first motorcycle was a Honda Nighthawk 250. I kept it for 7 months before buying a bigger bike.

I had zero motorcycling experience prior to taking the MSF Basic Rider Course and buying the Nighthawk.

I never dropped the Nighthawk but did fall off and drop the bigger bike and almost fell off it once or twice after that (stopping on odd two-plane gradients). It took all my strength to stop it from falling.

    I don’t regret starting on a 250 whatsoever.

I bought my first bike in May of this year , a 2006 Kawasaki Ninja 250 with 6 miles on it. I just cracked 500 miles on the odometer, having so much fun on it!

I had a mini bike when I was a kid and a dirt bike when I was 12 or 13. Only had the dirt bike for a little while before we moved and had to sell it. I am pretty sure it was a late 70’s early 80’s KM100. I had problems with a standard car until I realized that it was just like a motorcycle, seriously, that made it click. Then I didn’t ride for over 15 years except for a trip around the parking lot on a friends 250 dirt bike. The bike about ripped me right off the back end when I took off. I took the MSF at the end of May, a week later I had my license and a 2005 ex250 Ninja. Ride it to work everyday and I am improving by leaps and bounds. I didn’t even realize how bad I was the first time I took off up the street on the thing.
