I look at as natural selection, and yes im also glad I waited to later in life to ride also(39) When I see groups(much smaller but still out there in this area) I actually make sure to AVOID them cause you know some type of asshattery is soon to ensue. I mean honestly when your doing crap like that do you really expect NOT to get hurt/killed/maimed. Its hard enough without all that crap going on out there on a bike….

CBennettParticipantI can say just like on a car(i assume they use the same principals) id rather have it than not. They USED to say the same thing about ABS systems in cars(that they increased stopping distances) when they firs came out but that was because people were not actually taking advantage of the ABS they were still acting like it was the old system and they were pumping it and trying NOT to get the brakes to lockup. ive not read anything on bike specific systems though to know if they are the same or different then cars..but if its the same 100% id want it. Just like id rather(if it was a option) have FI over anything with carbs.
CBennettParticipantive only seen them in adds, I dont know anyone that actually owns a pair. I guess I would not mind them on say a dedicated ride where you are just going out for a ride and coming back. I could NOT see myself wearing them to anything like where I was driving there and was planning on doing something and wearing them around like that..but just for a dedicated to and from ride I think they would be cool.. Now I guess if you had the time to get them on get jeans over them get to school and then get to somewhere to change OUT of them and get them stored then get back into them at the end of the day they could be ok..
to actually DO anything else not so much id not want to sit around in them, walk around, play a game, do sports or anything else in them lol .
As a alternative why not just some armored over pants that have armor and are waterproof and fit on OVER jeans and or shorts. They will normally have pads and CE armor in the knees. then take them off when you get there and store them till you leave.
CBennettParticipantno, they were pretty much when we both stopped at the same time..If I was there far before them I just go as I always would. If its close especialy on my bike and in PA where 1/2 the people on the road DONT know the rules of the road I make SURE to communicate..Its not one of theor deals where I was there far before them but waived them on just when we arrived at a sign at the same time.
CBennettParticipantI also think most of those bikes are pretty FOOLISH first bikes to learn on. My brother in law learned on a GSX 600 and told me no way to make his same MISTAKE in doing that..he wished he had got the GS500F first then moved up.(i guess i could handle the sportster and V star 650 on the list as being ok)
CBennettParticipantYeah, im doing better took it out again today before the kid got home from school for a hour and rode all over in the neighborhood. It was obviously all under 40 MPH being residential neighborhoods. But I did much better turning and with the throttle only caught myself revving 2X and one was at a stop when i was trying to waive a car on but they REFUSED to go they just sat there even after I waived them on…but went to the park they have a circle fountain thingy in the middle of the lot that gave me some tight circle turning drills(both ways) I dont have any cones or anything so I just picked stuff for that. Ive not even tried a figure 8 yet(didnt think about it till i started writing this) . Also stalled it out once when I was at a stop and tried to let the UPS guy go..forgot cant waive him through when in in 1st at a stop with the clutch hand lol..but other than that it was fun even though i never went faster than 40 lol. almost did get hit by a car that decided going 30 on a street whos speed limit was 30 was just too slow for her. she passed me on the right as I was getting ready to turn(yes, i did have my signal on) luckily i heard her b4 i tired to turn. went down and filled up on gas $8.50 : ) which was great. so it was much more enjoyable this time and I was giving much less throttle on turns got so I can pull out nice and smooth. have to remember to use both brakes though ive been using the front much more than the rear…sometimes I almost forget the rear is there .
CBennettParticipantA friend wears these and likes them

CBennettParticipantYou can get some nice armored pants for between $50-60 if you really wanted to save some $$$
CBennettParticipantyeah, I am gonna go out here in a bit and work on that, luckily I dont have the deaths grip lol just probably wrong positioning. could also just be me trying to “get going” and once i got it going just not easing off quick enough.
CBennettParticipantyeah, just gotta change their thinking..Ive had my bike 4 weeks and already had 3 guys at work offered to buy it for what I paid for it. So they normally(sans Harleys for some reason) are a quick sell especially the 250’s.
CBennettParticipantI will try to figure out the throttle thing today probably, And yes I also think its probably just positional. Thats a good idea though i will try slightly upward..I think a lot of it is im trying to get used to how much throttle you need to get it rolling smoothly without staling(something ive not down yet luckily is stall it). so when so much is coming so quickly that comes natualy in a car for me im having to try to force myself to do like turn signals, down shifting at the right time, make sure im actually IN first, how much throttle to give and let out point on clutch actually turning lol and looking to where I want to go not just straight ahead lol…I think sometimes I tend to give more throttle than I probably need just trying not to stall it I think : ) .
CBennettParticipantGood Job I got mine the next 2 weekends(Fri and Sun for 2 weeks) and hope to say the same thing in 2 weeks .
CBennettParticipantI think 2 things conspire to make a bike non NOOB friendly. Weight and Power. I have NEVER in my life ridden a motorcycle. Yesterday I figured since I was taking the MSP course in 4 days that id jump on the Ninja 250 and take it around the circle(block, i live on a circle not a normal straight street : ) ) . Its SO much different than ANYTHING id ever ridden done before I was so happy that I did NOT have a high powered bike. I KNOW FOR A FACT that I would have at least gone up and over 1 curb or curbed the wheels and possibly dumped the bike if I had had say a 600 with close to 100HP to “learn” on. The 250 is just so much more “controllable” and if you accidentally roll on the throttle or forget to look through a turn or object fixate(i think i did both on my first turn) the 250 will not go 60 MPH in 3 seconds same with the weight..I know the 250 is a lightweight but im GLAD it is. when I almost hit that curb I was kinda sideways when I got the brakes on and clutch pulled in and luckily it being light I managed to keep it upright..had it been a Harley or something I would have dumped it(im 5’10” 165). Luckily for my first time out I did “ok” I guess I did not hit or wreck anything and managed to keep the Bike upright.
Im learning and got the Safety course in 3 days now..Im debating if I should just stay off the bike till I get the course done or if I should keep practicing : ) . I just think the bigger heavier bikes, especially for TRUE total Noobs like me will get you in trouble a LOT quicker with their speed as stuff will happen MUCH quicker on them(I kept forgetting or just not letting off the throttle in turns..imagine that “mistake” on a 600..I would keep saying WTF is going on why am i going so fast lol then id say cause YOU are twisting the throttle DUMMIE!!! STOP! ) and the weight the same deal..its much easier to manage a 320 LB bike than a 400+ LB bike for a first time rider. I got the up and down shifting thing ok and will get better in time, I didnt stall it once, but I gotta REALLY work on in turn throttle control and low speed turns themselves…just seems to me that the bike just does not want to turn in a tight turn but thats just something I need to learn never being on a bike..a 250 will help me learn that a LOT quicker than a more powerful/heavier 600+ would.
CBennettParticipantwow no idea, but being that new get it back to the dealer adn MAKE them fix it! at 125 miles thats totally unacceptable!
