I passed the MSF here in VA this past weekend. For anyone getting ready to take it the best advice I can give is “RELAX”. Everyone is going to make a mistake or two. Half of my class was made up of people who have never sat on a bike before. Myself, the last time I was on anything with a motor and two wheels was 30 years ago (I’m only 39) and it was basically a glorified minibike made up of a lawnmower engine and two wheels.
The instructors were great, very helpful and supportive. Bring LOTS OF WATER. You have lots of mini-breaks but nothing substantial like a real lunch break, so bring energy snacks. At the end of the class the instructor told us that basically we just rode the equivalent of 300 miles for the weekend, and trust me my body reminded me. Advil at the end of the first riding day will be your best friend (even the young guys were a bit sore for day 2).
Basically, I just wanted to reinforce “RELAX”. Once you stop thinking “please don’t let me be the one to drop the bike”, just have fun and keep your arms loose, you’ll not want the class to end.
P.S.
You’ll learn a lot of emergency stopping info and general good habits to get into (ie: Look through the turn and the clutch is your friend in slow maneuvers) that just might save your life one day or at least keep you from going over on a relatively easy curve, so pay attention to everything you are toldSeptember 2, 2008 at 12:59 pm #11538BankParticipantCongrats on passing!!
