Then why not get something like the Suzuki DRZ 400 SM..pretty much a dirtbike with street tires thats street legal. Would seem to be pretty much right down your alley..and meets that 400CC requirement…Im actually considering it for a first bike and ive never ridden before.

CBennettParticipantyeah it works, maybe not like you want with TONS off but they will normaly try to “include” stuff or discount the bike a bit..My brother in law was looking at a bike a Suzuki 600 GSX-R he looked/pit 3 dealers against each other..one pretty much wanted to give him a whopping $250 off the bike price and then cried about how deals like that will break him and he has so little profit anyways..so that guy got knocked off the list pretty quick. The other guy went about $700 off the bike price which was decent but the local guy went $500 off the bike price plus he let him pick out any gear up to $400 worth on top of that(he had never ridden B4 and did not know of this site lol getting a GSX-R for a first bike ) but that was the best deal as he had no gear so he got the bike cheaper and the price of all his gear wrapped up in the deal..he got a jacket, helmet(fullface to match the bike colors same with jacket), some kind of what are almost “overpants” with kevlar or armor or both that he can put on over the top of jeans or what ever he is wearing, gloves, and a bike bag. So year they will deal and dicker but you gotta try pretty hard..none of them wanted to do much of anything till he brought up the competition and what they were offering.
oh and see if you can get them to give you credit at the dealer..he had /was going through a divorce and his credit was not that great but he got financing through the dealership or at least the company or what ever…
CBennettParticipantive been looking at a few bikes all I would consider to be good for beginners from reviews and such the Vulcan 500 is the 1 Cruiser i was looking at and seems a reasonable split between too powerful/big for a “first” bike and too slow/small..
CBennettParticipantcool, thanks
CBennettParticipanthows it sit meaning seat position…straighter like a standard or hunched over like a bigger sportsbike? I have sat on the ninja 250 and the Buell Blast so far and those positions are good for me…the bigger Gixxer 600 id NOT like its soo forward/hunched over.
CBennettParticipantTY, yes I want to get the course this year..they have been batting around the idea of starting to charge for it also..it is not real hard to get into but you do have to register for it, April-July are their “busy” months so I may try to get it in August or there abouts possibly even Sept..i dont see me getting a bike this year unless its real late in the year like late Sept or Oct or till next spring possibly.
CBennettParticipantlol i would have looked if i did not have to “sign up/create a account” to do so.
CBennettParticipantHow is the riding position on it is it way leaned over or a bit more upright..im considering the 500 E/F my brother on law has the Gixxer 600 and I DONT like the position on that..way too hunched/leaned over for my liking..I did not mind the position on the 2005 Ninja i sat on for a while and I liked it on the Buell Blast.
CBennettParticipantGood info!
CBennettParticipantGREAT! I cant wait..I just got my Permit today
CBennettParticipantWOW, like you said, guy was NOT even doing anything really that could be called dangerous or dumb, a little throttle but thats about it. thats horrible to be honest feel bad for the guy..and this is just MY opinion the dealership should fix the bike for FREE for putting dumb slippery *(&^+_! on the tires to begin with!
CBennettParticipantAwesome, I wont buy from a place with poor service. VERY important to me..their prices are generally higher than what you would otherwise get off the street/private sector..mostly to pay the Bills(rent for the store) and help(employees salaries and benefits) so they sure as heck BETTER have good customer service if im gonna buy from them and support THEIR JOBS..if not i will go elsewhere! great move and glad to see you found a place to treat you right! One thing that I WOULD do just so management knows..you dont have to mention any specific employee by name(unless they were REAL bad) but I ALWAYS write either the manager of the store or even the corporation a letter letting them know that im taking my business elsewhere and why..so that they can either make changes or at least know whats happening at their store.
CBennettParticipantDont buy anything form those tools, find a place thats wanting and willing to help or just get good advice from people who are knowledgeable and buy online/elsewhere.
CBennettParticipantbetter than I can get locally by a few hundred, they are $4200-4500 around here and someone posted new they are $5100
CBennettParticipantlol thats what he calls it but being a noob id just nod and say…um ok lol.
