So I’ve had my gs500f for a week and a half or so. (125mi on the odometer) Today I ran into a problem… it’s been stalling at every stop. (yes the clutch is pulled) Today has been the first time this has happened. Ive had the choke on, off, partially on, halfway on, barely on, barely under all the way on, every setting it could be at… bike kept on stalling.
If it means anything, the bike has been rained on a couple times in the past few days and I live above 7000ft elevation.
Any ideas or mechanical knowledge would be greatly appreciated.

I had a similar problem… another thing could be as you mentioned with the rain is water in the fuel, a good product is Sea Foam, it is a conditioner, drier, and cleaner very good product.
Hope it helpsSeptember 1, 2008 at 10:44 pm #11522nau_lax21Participantanother thing… i have to gas the bike while starting it. could the carburetor be set too low?
i rode over to the dealership but they were closed because of labor day, ill go in tomorrowSeptember 2, 2008 at 1:53 am #11524nau_lax21Participanttoday got worse, riding around… the bike was fighting like it wanted to stall coming out of first gear. then i noticed the speedomteter, which was working earlier today, stopped working. finally, when i got back home, i noticed a cable was loose and dragging on the street. heres some pics of the cable
its going straight to the dealership tomorrow, but i get a feeling like those guys are kinda shady. any ideas???
thanks in advance

I know with the bike being brand new being furious and such is first round of emotions. Ask them what their process is for delivery.. do they assemble it or does another company/warehouse do it and they just do a pre delivery check, inspection, or they have the whole kit and caboodle. Stand your ground , ask questions, demand honest answers, could be chalked up to human mistake, could be worse and be a shady dealer. Get facts to decide and not disappointed emotions.
At the risk of “are you serious?!” responses… I am an auto mechanic… I have seen just about everything under the sun as far as imperfections go with new and used cars,,, some are able to be explained as “Oh $h1T” moments that a brain fart could cause-and your the unlucky recipient , some are 5:00 Friday situations that never should happen. Its up to you for your comfort of trust to help you decide with the information you get.
“will you feel safe again?”
“Did they give you enough cause to trust them again?”
“Did they have a reasonable explanation?”Either way you go make sure you let information help get you to a conclusion. Not raw emotion. Liking the bike too much can be just as bad as jumping to the conclusion that you got screwed.
