ParticipantFind some funny clips on you tube of guys wrecking 600s just trying to take off the first time. Probably won’t help and when it doesn’t, take out a life insurance policy on her.

ParticipantBreaking in the bike would have to be done before you took it on the interstate for a serious ride. Look into the Motoman method on ninja250.com if you do pick one up. it breaks it in at about 200 miles and is probably better for the bike.

ParticipantI concur. The Ninja 250 would be ideal for what you are describing.

ParticipantMine is snell/dot. best of both worlds I guess.
Ben, You might try getting the thicker cheek pads to sure up the fit on the large if they are available..

Participant1300 sounds like a good price. I doubt the guy would sell you a dud of a helmet, but always be cautious about used helmets. Try and replace it as soon as you can.

ParticipantKirk, that is quite an upgrayedd. What made you want to jump straight to the top of the food chain? I would say your experience is different than his. He has two months experience and 2k miles. He admittedly stated that he is the kind of rider that wants to stand the bike up at 80mph. He is going to do what he wants to do, but I think it is everyone’s responsibility to at least advise that he think about it a little more. When he feels ready and when he actually is ready are two different things.

ParticipantI have read several things that recommend against the two finger rule. One of them stated that it is possible to crush your fingers with the break. Most things I read say to keep it covered for increased reaction time. I don’t keep mine covered but I probably give the vehicle in front of me a pretty good buffer too. Admittedly, this does nothing to help with cars pulling out in front of me or other hazards, but I have pretty quick reactions and covering the break doesn’t feel natural to me.

Participantnext time try a superman! ; ) I really hate warped roads on on ramps. You have to build up speed and turn and you can feel the bike slide ever so slightly as you loose traction at the apex of each bump.

ParticipantIf the HJC is the most comfortable, go with it. HJC is a good company and they make a good helmet.

ParticipantSix-Shooter, have you been able to test the bike to bike communication on this? How well would this work on a sportbike with a low windshield, i.e windnoise?

Wow, time warp to the seventies with all my jive talk.

ParticipantYou could use a chatterbox. I don’t know about controlling the ipod while riding. Best bet would be to set up a playlist and put it on random repeat.
Is it safe? could be a distraction and if you have it too loud you can damage your ears, but at a reasonable volume witht he ear plug type headphones you are actually helping your hearing by blocking out wind. I use the ear plug type headphones and I worried about sirens and noises I should hear. These don’t seem to be a problem. Of course I don’t turn up the volume to ride. I keep it at the same level that I do here in the office. The cut down on wind noise, but at about 75 the wind is hard enough that it is starting to overwhelm the music. Just think of how loud that is without hearing protection.
You will likely get a bunch of differing opinions on the safety of this. It isn’t the safest but neither are earplugs, but I think having something blocking wind noise is essential.
