I got a bike! Sort of! I went to a co-worker’s house today whose husband has 4 motorcycles, one of which is a Honda Rebel 250! I don’t know the year, but it runs and it’s been dropped before (yay!) and just need the tank painted (I don’t care – it runs!!)! Needs a tune up, has high mileage (over 17000), but he’s gonna let me ride it (when I insure it and after the MSF course I’m taking the weekend of Aug. 22nd) while I pay him off, then it’s all mine!
Also, he let me take it around his neighborhood today and I never dropped it nor came close to losing control, although it did die (again, needs a tune up). Gonna take it to a deserted parking lot to practice corning without fear of cars coming to get me and u-turns so I’ll have a head start on the MSF course.
I’m nerdy looking (white, glasses, goofy smile, and even plaid shirts) so I can’t wait to see the looks on the faces of people who thought they’d never see me doing something so cool!!

Same here man (except the plaid shirt) and people think its sexy. Just work on your “game” and the girls will be putty in your hands.August 10, 2008 at 6:50 am #10194RabParticipantCongrats on the “new” bike.
17,000 isn’t high mileage for a Honda Rebel if it’s had the oil changed now and again. It should still have plenty of life left in it and 100,000 miles is not unheard of in those li’l Honda 234 c.c. air-cooled engines.
It’s just that here in the U.S.A. most folks don’t ride their motorcycles for transport, just for playing or posing on, hence the large number of older bikes with really low miles.
BTW: There is nothing nerdy about being white, in fact, we invented the entire modern world, and *tartan* shirts (plaid is a blanket) are totally cool dude. In fact *you’re* cool dude, all we daredevil motorcyclists are

I haven’t bluebooked it because this guy is the husband of a coworker and is extremely nice and I’d be willing to bet he’ll help me with *almost* any problems I might have with it. $1300 is how much he’s put into it to lately – new brakes and such, so I offered to get him that. No banks, he’ll just take payments, (means no interest) so I figure I also can’t beat that deal!

August 11, 2008 at 3:37 am #10241BuddParticipant1300 sounds like a good price. I doubt the guy would sell you a dud of a helmet, but always be cautious about used helmets. Try and replace it as soon as you can.

August 11, 2008 at 4:56 am #10245LokiParticipantGreat advice, Helmets over time will form to the wear’s head. Everyones head is different so it could not feel good and it would be as safe.
August 11, 2008 at 5:16 am #10249ShannonGParticipantCongrats on the new ride!
August 11, 2008 at 3:37 pm #10265jayman2078ParticipantThe seller says his son wore it once, and the only reason it has any (hardly noticeable) scratches on it at all is because the guy dropped it, then went to pick it up and accidentally kicked it further. I want to get one of those fancy Scorpions that are full helmets and have the sun visor inside the outer visor and the whole front of it can be lifted up to make it open-faced and has vents out the wazoo. $248 at my local motorcycle shop on Route 66. Then I’ll have two just in case I crack one open!
