Solomolo RiderAugust 8, 2008 at 5:58 pm #10097MattParticipantI know it wasn’t for me.
But you have to remember that this forum is meant to be a nice safe place for people just getting into motorcycling to visit.I realize that “fag” is a pretty common word on internet forums.
But a lot of the people who would be getting the most out of this forum are not regular internet forum users. Using offensive langauge (and calling someone “gay” for any reason short of their open homosexual status qualifies as offensive) only hurts the image of this board, and its ability to help people getting into the sport. We have to come across as welcoming nice people who want to help (which I think we all are). If we don’t, people won’t trust the opinions of this site and will end up going to the “Death Machine 2000R”-pushing salesman and either end up on the wrong bike and not stay in the sport, or simply never get into the sport in the first place.
Think of it like this, all these threads are being read by someone’s Mom (probably lots of people’s moms actually). The more offensive and dangerous we sound, the more that Mom is going to be against her kids ever getting on a bike. The nicer and better spoken we are, the more chances her kids have of ending up on a bike (and the more chance we have of getting Her out on a bike!).
So yea, lets all play nice and keep the foul language for other forums (or PMs if you have to speak your mind to someone).
Signed,

Solomolo RiderAugust 9, 2008 at 7:07 am #10143kirkParticipantInteresting conversation going on here.
My personal experience comes from the gs500f. I purchased it a little over a year ago. I took the MSF class and I put countless hours around the neighborhood. This includes several chases from the local canine patrol as I practised. This month I finally upgraded to a Honda CBR1000RR. Great bike and I love it! It is such a pleasure to ride. It is a very different animal from the GS500 but I’m slowly getting the hang of it. I went back to riding the neighborhood streets again and saying hello to my local canine friends as they nip at my heals.
Long story short, I’m by no means am an expert rider. I have a lot to learn but I also felt ready to upgrade. So far I’m glad I did and I’m enjoying myself.
I would suggest you upgrade when you feel you are ready. Good luckAugust 9, 2008 at 9:11 am #10146BoOZe P-ti MotardParticipantyou said it: after 1year+ and countless hours and etc… can someone upgrade after 2000miles? anyways i have ridden a cbr600rr some days back and i must say it is a beast coz as you accelerate, the more it goes on the rpm meter, the more feeling i get that it wants me to open throttle… dang now i know why the urge to open up full gas… but the cbx750 was much more forgiving…

Solomolo RiderAugust 9, 2008 at 12:50 pm #10150BuddParticipantKirk, that is quite an upgrayedd. What made you want to jump straight to the top of the food chain? I would say your experience is different than his. He has two months experience and 2k miles. He admittedly stated that he is the kind of rider that wants to stand the bike up at 80mph. He is going to do what he wants to do, but I think it is everyone’s responsibility to at least advise that he think about it a little more. When he feels ready and when he actually is ready are two different things.

August 9, 2008 at 1:37 pm #10152fotobitsParticipantand have to say this:
Dong 80 mph wheelies on the street is stupid. Even if you don’t get hurt any cagers who see you will think “There goes another idiot motorcycle rider” and their perception of all motorcycles riders, even the mature and responsible among us, will go down a notch. I’m sick of people thinking it is cute to say “Oh, you bought a (murdercycle/donor bike)” when I tell them I bought a motorcycle.
Keep the stunts off road. It you want to wheelie buy a dirt bike.
August 9, 2008 at 6:39 pm #10158CBennettParticipantIm trying to decide if I will actually EVER upgrade..Got a Ninja 250 and from all the reports ive read..it will honestly do everything I want. It looks decent(the newer ones are better but the older ones to me are also just fine) it will go at least 65-70 mph, gets good MPG…what more would I want..I dont need the ability to get to 100 in 3 seconds I will never drive a bike 100mph anyways..So I guess for me a upgrade in the future may be from a 1999 Ninja 250 to a 2008+ Ninja 250 probably just get the newer model but same bike .
August 9, 2008 at 7:53 pm #10161BoOZe P-ti MotardParticipantfotobits sir that is what i wanted to xplain the guy who posted this query: coleB… with my sarcasm and sorry if you misinterpreted my comments or maybe i should not have put ‘my moto….’ i was totally against his upgrade coz people in my country have had their a*s*s paid off coz of not having experience of riding and shifting to I-4 140hp bikes! even if the accidents were serious, it was not communicated, unless the rider is dead… you guys have serious luck to start on a 250 or 500 bike and i admit though i started on a 50cc bike and rode a 70/100cc for two years, the bike still had something to show me and i always had something to learn from it… and coleB, you are talking about upgrading to gixer750 with i dunno 130hp compared to 60hp for the 500?and you think a year is sufficient?ok we advised,,ball in your court…

Solomolo RiderAugust 9, 2008 at 8:29 pm #10168fotobitsParticipantThat’s one of the problems with communicating on the Internet, we cannot see each other’s facial expressions and body language. I completely missed your sarcasm. Sarcasm which was well-put, I might add. I’m sorry I misinterpreted your comment.
August 9, 2008 at 9:03 pm #10171RabParticipantWell said… and you’re right. It *does* do all you need if, like me, you consider a motorcycle as being transport and/or fun, not an extension of the ego. Actually, I think we’re in the minority on that one; at least here in the U.S.A.
In my opinion, unless you’re touring across the country two-up, or plan to be a motorcycle racer, anything bigger/faster would just be a needless (and expensive) vanity purchase. Nothing wrong with that if you can afford it I guess, but at least recognize it for what it is.
Don’t be suckered by the advertising hype. Keep motorcycling in perspective and save your money for other things.

August 10, 2008 at 7:06 pm #10203BoOZe P-ti MotardParticipantNah it is alright about sorry, it’s ok sir, no need to, and well guess you are completely right about internet. Though I am young and during my 6years of riding, I have went through lets say a lil more than enough to know certain things and know my limits though I have not ridden as fast as you, i am not as skilled as you and have not the same level of experience but what we have in common, we both ride. What I want to say is that I also as others will try to add my piece to at least try to complete certain puzzles for some. I knew I would never have chosen a cbr rr even if I was enough skilled ‘coz sport’s not in my blood but hooliganism, like z750 ;P and some days back I just tried a cbr and dang its a beast and the position, well…. For this kind of bike to have to transfer weight, not shift, that’s what I call that… I accelerated and the more it climbed in rpms, the more feeling I got the bike was saying to me ‘hey that’s all you can do? c’mon open me!!…’ … Today i witnessed four riders at a stoplight. Four great japanese: kawi honda suzu and yama… all 600rr… all noobs… the cbr was about to do an unwanted wheelie (clutch in, 1st gear, opened gas and out of concentration rather let go of clutch…) and the kawi was unable to locate first gear and all his pals started and he was left back… Here mostly all are noobs… but m not buying anything till I have not tried mostly all bikes… dang i talk a lot when m sleepy… when will my day come when i’ll do as in your photo…

Solomolo RiderAugust 11, 2008 at 7:41 pm #10304WeaponZeroParticipantI’ve been wondering the same thing myself. I do like my SV650 and when I do “upgrade”, i would rather keep it than trade it in. Still, I long for a VFR or a late ’90s Kawasaki ZX-9R and I can’t wait until the day when I’m good enough to be able to get on one of those.
