ParticipantI don’t think there will be any new ’08 Ninjas. They are all pretty much gone. If your dealer gets something it will likely be a 2009. I think the list will transfer as you are looking for a Ninja 250r and not specifically an ’08 ninja.

ParticipantIt shouldn’t be a year on the Ninja. The ’09s should be coming out pretty soon. Go get on a list for an ’09. Although the Vulcan isn’t a bad choice either, but it will be a bit heavier and not as nimble.

Participantyeah, it is hard to get the hang of shifting when you only go up to 2nd and only to third for one exercise.

ParticipantYou have to look at the tires often. Mileage isn’t that great of indicator because driving habits and conditions play a huge role. Ask the person when they last changed their tires. Look for a good amount of tread left. A lot of tires have a notch or a line and when the tire wears down that far, it is time to replace them. For my ninja tires average about $100 a piece. This differs from bike to bike based on wheel size and width and how common a tire size it is. I am not saying that there isn’t bad rubber out there but if you stick with a major manufacturer, you should be good.

ParticipantI have commuted in the bay area for 1,000 years and I hate motorcycles because they get where they are going faster than I do. The are smaller and cause less congestion. A couple of times, when I was talking on my cell phone, I almost hit a couple of them and they had the audacity to be upset with me. Also 1 motorcycle pollutes as much as 22 cars.

ParticipantI tend to let the clutch out slowly when coming to a stop or slowing down and tend to blip when I am increasing speed or climbing.

ParticipantFront brake 70% rear brake 30%. have you taken the MSF. If not you should really do so.

ParticipantI call shenanigans. You may think you have ridden the GS500 to its limits, but I suggest you take a performance class like fotobits suggested. Topping out the speedo is not riding a bike to its limits. Riding a bike to its limits out of a track environment is unsafe for you and others on the road, ie. Don’t do it.

ParticipantYou may be thinking too hard about your line instead of the end destination. Unless you are working on it or on a race track, I wouldn’t really worry about the line you take any further than staying in your lane or taking the wide edge for better visability in low visability areas.

Participantyou will get more flexible and be able to move your foot pretty effortlessly given time and practice.
Or, you could just forgo the rear brake, like some squid I saw on a cbr. He couldn’t remove the shifter so he turned his foot outwards resting his foot longways on the peg. I don’t recommend this though.

ParticipantI used four straps when I transported my ninja. The guy had ramps so getting it in was no problem. Getting it out we used my Gorilla latter. Not the way I would recommend but it was easier than just lifting it out of the back of the truck. The truck I used had a short bed and we had to drop the gate to get it to fit. It was a lot easier than I thought it would be, and four straps keeps the thing locked down.
If you have four guys 300lbs, while awkward, is very doable.

ParticipantI have noticed that when I am at work I can’t use the reply feature. We are locking into using IE6 at work and I am sure that that is where the problem lies. At home I use firefox and it isn’t an issue. Maybe it is a sign that I shouldn’t surf at work.

ParticipantHow are you supposed to get the bike to the test?
TN does not differentiate between scooters and motorcycles at testing. You can take a 50cc scooter down there and they will allow it, or so I have been told. The MSF waived my need to take the test.
