They are hideous, I agree. I was thinking of getting mirrors off of a GSX-R but they look HUGE and they have an integrated signal light in them. I need aftermarket fairing mounted mirrors!

All I know about 2 stroke vs 4 stroke (via my dirt biker sister) is you get more direct power out of a smaller displacement with a 2 stroke, and they smoke like a sumbeech.

I think combat boots would offer good protection, provided you can do something about the laces.

I freaked out a little after I ripped off most of the stock decals and put these on, but they have totally grown on me.
I can’t get the tank decals off; there’s a layer of clearcoat over them!
I am hopiing for a real custom paint job over the winter.

Wow, I guess I should have saved some money and bought some new cedars for that hedge, eh? lol

Your explanation is way better/accurate than mine. Cheers!

It happens very naturally when you start to take corners a little quicker. It’s not something you have to really plan for; the front end of the bike drops into you hand and you correct.

I had a countersteering moment quite by accident today and it all made sense. The way I see it, when you lean into a turn the tendency is for the front end of the bike to fall in the direction of the turn. By pushing on your inside handlebar you counter that force. So, to turn left you would lean left and push on the left handlebar. It doesn’t happen unless you’re getting a good lean into a turn.

Welcome to the mid-life crisis club! Although I like to think of it more as mid-life finanacial stability to fulfill a dream than a crisis.
This site is full of excellent advice. A lot of very level headed, safety minded people here.

I am still getting to know my bike, especially the choke, but I open it up before starting the bike cold (maybe not all the way since it’s warm right now) and as I am putting on my helmet, gloves etc and the bike is running I keep adjusting the choke to keep the revs in the 2-3k range. This is per my owner’s manual.
One thing I have noticed is adjustments to the choke take a couple of seconds to have effect. Adjust it a little and then wait a moment for the bike to catch up to the adjustment.

We got the ‘you’re going to die but enjoy the bikes in the meantime’ lecture from my inlaws. The funny thing is they had a motorcycle as their only transportation for years when they were teens. And rode in nothing but shortts and tee shirts. And may not have worn helmets. And lived to tell about it. But somehow we’re doomed. Whatever.

Edited to say: not everyone who rides a motorcycle ends up as roadkill. In fact, the only person I know who was seriously injured in a motorcycle accident turned left in front of a 1980 Cadillac. He was on the wrong end of that fight for sure, but completely in the wrong.
