Sorry; it’s a Suzuki GS500f.
I didn’t want to alter the handling of my bike either, so I just adjusted the preload and didn’t bother with a lowering link. I would think someone your height would want to get the link though. At 5’2″, I doubt very much you’ll have enough mass to bottom out the rear shock with a lowering link in.ShannonGParticipantBulbs won’t be warrantied because they’re wear items.
It sounds like a short in the system though, since I doubt very much you would burn out the running light filament of both taillight bulbs at the same time. It’s a two filament bulb, one for the taillight and a bigger brighter one for the brake.ShannonGParticipantI have aftermarket signals on my bike and one side does flash faster than the other. It’s not a cause for concern.
Your brake light should come on no matter which brake you use.
Is the bike jerking when you downshift because you’re going too fast for that gear? Feathering the throttle as you let out the clutch will make for a smoother downshift.
Having a Kawasaki mechanic go over it will be money well spent.ShannonGParticipantI’m 5’5″ and my GS500f is very comfortable to me. I have the preload in the rear dialed all the way down, but you can also put a lowering link in it too.
ShannonGParticipantI would say the V-Strom 650 is way more touring and way less sport. Very upright riding postion, easy to mount saddle bags, etc. That said, from a very quick glance at the Suzuki website it looks like the two bikes use the same engine. Performance wise, expect the same horsepower/torque, although the V-Strom may be a little heavier.
ShannonGParticipantI paid $5800 before taxes for a 2008. If that price includes PDI, taxes, etc, it doesn’t seem outrageous tome. I think all told my bike was closer to $7k by the time the gov’t got their cut and whatnot. Being Canadian, I’m used to getting hosed on vehicles though.
ShannonGParticipantIf it has a choke, when you start the bike cold with the choke on it will rev higher and higher as it warms up. You have to keep adjusting the choke.
ShannonGParticipantLooks as though the general consensus is a standard/cruiser style bike, as opposed to a sport bike is best for someone taller. Maybe a Honda Rebel or something like that?

ShannonGParticipantI am embarassed to admit how long it took me to figure out what LEO stands for…..
ShannonGParticipantBuy a Yoshi TRS muffler for your bike. There’s huge sticker on it that says exactly that. Being a rebel, I left mine on . It’s on the inside so you can’t really see it unless you’re looking for it.

I would say as much as a 10% power increase just from changing the muffler. I paid $350 CDN for mine, and I know http://www.denniskirk.com carries them becaues that’s where I originally found it.
The jet kit and air filter are more subtle power increases, but I have what I call ‘two stage’ power now. As you accelerate through the rev range, you can feel it kick (and by kick, I mean in a pretty mild GS500 sort of way) around 6000 rpm. I like it; it’s more sportbikey than before. Jet kit and filter were a bit under $200, but I had to order both straight from the manufacturer and got hosed by UPS for shipping.ShannonGParticipant…but kucos to him for showing it to world. He wasn’t claiming to be a good rider.
