Hello Everyone,
I took my MSF course back in early June and also got my motorcycle license and started my search for my first bike. I finally found a bike that was within my price range on Ebay. It’s a ’97 Kawasaki EX250 with about 25,000 miles. I just got the bike last week and have only been able to ride it around a few times while I’m getting the title transferred and plates for it. I have notice a few things that im not sure if its just my inexperience or If there is something wrong with the bike. First when doing my preride inspection the brake light does not come on when I use the front brake but it does when I use the rear. Also I’m not sure if my throttle is closing fast enough, when I let go It just moves a bit and then stops I would have to push it forward to hear it click. The previous owner put these flush mount turn signals on the front and for some reason the left turn signal blinks twice as fast then the right. When riding and coming to a stop I pull the clutch in to downshift and after I let the clutch out the bike will jurk. Once I do get everything in my name and legal I do plan on taking it to the local Kawasaki dealership to get it fully inspected. I was just wondering if you guys can tell me if I’m doing anything wrong.
Thanks

Your brake light should come on no matter which brake you use.
Is the bike jerking when you downshift because you’re going too fast for that gear? Feathering the throttle as you let out the clutch will make for a smoother downshift.
Having a Kawasaki mechanic go over it will be money well spent.August 19, 2008 at 4:40 am #10745RabParticipant1. First when doing my preride inspection the brake light does not come on when I use the front brake but it does when I use the rear.
That’s not right; get it checked.
2. I’m not sure if my throttle is closing fast enough, when I let go It just moves a bit and then stops I would have to push it forward to hear it click.
Might just need to lubricate the cable (you can buy a cable-lubing kit), or might need a new return spring.
3. The previous owner put these flush mount turn signals on the front and for some reason the left turn signal blinks twice as fast then (sic) the right.
When it blinks twice as fast on one side, it usually means that one of the bulbs on that side is out. Check that the back turn signal works on that side.
3. When riding and coming to a stop I pull the clutch in to downshift and after I let the clutch out the bike will jurk (sic).
It’s normal for a bike to slow down when you let the clutch out when down-shifting if you haven’t attempted to match the engine speed to the lower gear before letting the clutch out. You could be downshifting too early.
I would definitely have a private sale used bike inspected.

The faq on http://www.ninja250.com will most likely be able to answer all of your mechanical questions. If you go there, don’t ask questions in the forum without reading the faq; They don’t like it.

2. about throttle matter, check cable and where the cable goes into the carb, might be some pin or spring prob, i bet on that.
3.about the turn signals, might be the current, imean its an aftermarket stuff and the electrical components in it is definitely not the same compared to stock.
(the guy above put 3 twice )
4.about bike jurking, ok for downshifting and letting clutch too early BUT, check the bearings where the forks connects to the chassis. you know what i mean ‘coz i can’t explain the area well.check these and lemme no…

I also checked for any binds in the throttle cable. I didn’t see any thing so I guess it just needs a good lubing Once I get the bike looked at and some new tires put on I plan and taking it out and practice my shifting. Also does anyone know where I can get like a screw kit some of the screws are missing for the fairings?
Thanks for all the help!

If the left side uses 5 W bulbs, but the right side uses 10W bulbs, then the right side would be higher power and would blink faster (if the blinking is current based, i.e. depleting a capacitor or something).
