ParticipantA couple of kids on my road have them and they are annoying. They may be louder than my Ninja. The kids are dangerous on them too. The bikes themselves are too low to be seen clearly and will be top heavy due to your son outweighing the bike. Get him a mini bike or an 80cc dirtbike. It is more of a motorcycle experience and will likely be safer and more fun.
That being said, the pocket rockets do look fun.

ParticipantI don’t think he is against upgrading, but upgrading peramturely can be just as bad (or worse) than starting off on a bike that is too big. Actually I think Matt was saying that the monster is a great bike with lots of personality.

ParticipantThe bike will be able to take a 400 mile trip. I wouldn’t redline it the whole way. I don’t know how comfortable it would be. and you would stop more often than just gas. Plan on stopping for 30min for ever 2hrs on the road, minimum. Riding a motorcycle can drain you mentally and physically.

ParticipantDon’t just release the clutch when down shifting. let it out nice and easy and you will get a nice growl out of it.
The faq on http://www.ninja250.com will most likely be able to answer all of your mechanical questions. If you go there, don’t ask questions in the forum without reading the faq; They don’t like it.

ParticipantYou can get the ninja lowered if you need to. The rebel would be an option if you like cruiser styles.

ParticipantCA has tougher emission laws than other states and some bikes are taylored to CA. I would get it registered in AZ just so you don’t have to pay to get the thing modified right out the door. I would also look to see how cheap it is to register in each state.

ParticipantI have been using the powertrip street unit gloves. I think I might buy some gauntlets from the Kawasaki sight for the winter though.

ParticipantI mean, whose first ride didn’t end up like that. J/k. I don’t think my little ninja would be capable of doing that.

Participantyeah he wants 10k on a bike that cost him 9k brand new and he wants 4.2k on a 3.1k bike. Hope no one is suckered in on that one. He likely got them financed for way too high and is in over his head on his house payment. Sadly that is probably what he owes on each bike.

ParticipantBooze, The Todd calls them ta-tas on this really excellent show called scrubs. It is common United Statian slang. I am not sure if Canada, UK, Aus, or NZ use it though.

ParticipantYeah I noticed his head focused on the trees and not where he wanted to go. That guy is a danger to himself as well as everyone else and shouldn’t ride on the road.
Spaz, does your bike sound like that? His didn’t sound like it was idling right.

ParticipantJust change out the tires on your 500!
I hate to say it, but unless your friend goes custom, there isn’t anything stock that will fit him comfortably. That is the price he pays for being able to change a lightbulb without a chair. I have a friend that is 6’4″ and he owns a Vstar custom 1100 custom and he dwarfs the bike. He is only 6’4″ and it looks like most people on a 250 rebel. A chopper with forward foot controls that he uses as the normal foot controls could work.

ParticipantI have a 2005 Kawasaki Ninja 250. I have ridden it. . .a lot. Oh, I have also put fuel in it and changed the oil. The previous owner changed out the sprockets for more fuel economy. oh a few more things. I have cleaned and lubed the chain a few times and washed it and polished the chrome.
