RobbieJParticipant
I’m in Savannah, Ga and have a 1 y/o to deal with every day. If I could get away, I wouldn’t mind getting up there for a day or so. Maybe next time.
RobbieJParticipantI was born in Annapolis, MD and grew up just outside of Syracuse, NY. Either way, welcome aboard and good luck.
RobbieJParticipantI suggest getting some sort of chain or cable to lock it to something that cannot be moved, if you’re in an area of worry. Even with disc locks, they can still pick the bike up and worry about the lock in a different place. Most bikes are small enough for 2 men to pick up and put on the back of a pickup. Otherwise, I suggest you spend the money on an alarm.
RobbieJParticipantI have every feature that was offered on a neon for that year. Of course, it is a 5 speed manual. I love it but, need to sell it, now. Heading to Germany and Army will only ship 1 car.
RobbieJParticipantI got hit by a bird and a very large dragonfly. I would have thought it was a bird but, I saw it fly in front of me. Neither of the 2 hurt, I was only doing about 45 mph but, still caught me off guard.
RobbieJParticipantI just got back from a 15 month deployment and bought my 04 Ninja 500 and thought I’d be able to ride almost all year round here in Savannah, Ga. I found out last week that I’m Changing my station to Germany, where it gets cold as hell in the winters like my home in NY. However, I do get to ride on the Autobon, though. Come to think of it, I guess I’m not dissatisfied, at all. LOL
RobbieJParticipantYou want the helmet to be snug. When you put it on, it’s going to push your cheeks in like a chipmunk. If you have any space in the helmet, at all, when it breaks in it is going to be too loose. It should be snug when you buy it and it will break in for you.
RobbieJParticipantI can only speak from my experience and I went with the Ninja 500. I can cruise very comfortably on the highways and still have a couple more gears to help save gas milage. It’s got plenty of power but, hasn’t intimidated me, yet. I don’t care for the way the Blast looks, personally. I was considering the Ninja 250 but, the 500 is a bit more bike and I know it won’t have any problem with the wife on the back. Also, I ride around town mostly upright and I don’t have any problem with the riding position. I am 6’1″ and around 185lbs, if that helps. So far, I’ve had it a couple of weeks and I don’t regret buying it, whatsoever.
RobbieJParticipantUsually, when the MSF course is completed here in Ga, they fill out a waiver for a license. However, because the one I took was Military sponsored, they had too many people going through it in just a short period of time. So, they weren’t giving out the waivers for us. I think the Military wants us to actually take the DMV test. Besides, the instructor said that he’d be filling out paperwork for days if he wrote them up for everybody. I don’t blame him for not wanting to do all that.
RobbieJParticipantHey man, I’m 6′ tall and I’m riding a Ninja 500. I don’t really have any problem with it, as far as size. You should be fine on any 500 out there. If you don’t like the sport bikes, take a look at the Vulcan 500, too. I think it’s got a little lower seat than the sport bikes.
RobbieJParticipantProbably the biggest reason that car drivers do not see motorcycles is because they are not looking for them. Think of it this way. Remember looking into the fridge for something to eat and you open the door and you scan over everything but, didn’t really see anything that you wanted. However, your mom asks if you want some left over meatloaf. You didn’t see it when you looked the first time but, it sounds really good, now. You mom walks over and opens the fridge, moves the juice out of the way and BAM!!! there it is. The same applies on the road. Drivers scan over there general range of view and aren’t thinking of looking for motorcycles. They see everything but, motorcycles. That’s why it’s important for us to wear contrasting colors to help get their attention.
RobbieJParticipantInstead of having it over a weekend with 8 hours classroom and 8 hours riding, they broke it into 4 days of 4 hours each. Alternating classroom and riding. It was pretty cool, though. 8 straight hours in Georgia sun on the hot asphalt on the runway at Hunter Army Airfield would have been torture. 4 hours was bad enough. Either way, I got my certificate and I’m going to schedule to take my road test here in the next couple of weeks.
RobbieJParticipantI was driving to work the other day and about wet myself.
I was trying to turn left onto a street but, there was an SUV blocking half the road so I had to wait till they got out of the way. The driver was smoking a cigerette, talking on her cell phone, and turning right with no traffic coming but, she was just chilling in the way blocking traffic. You may all think to yourselves “gee, what’s so special about that?” I’ll tell you what!!!
I WAS IN BAGHDAD, IRAQ!!!!! I CAN’T EVEN GET AWAY FROM THE CRAZY BITCHES ON DEPLOYMENT!!!.
Now, I get to come home and convince my wife that I’ll be ok on a motorcycle with drivers like that.
RobbieJParticipantPerhaps, if you agree that the guy who pulled out in front of him was at fault for putting him in that situation to begin with, it will ease his mind a little bit. Maybe then he’ll be more open to suggestions to help him handle his bike a little better the next time he gets in that kind of a situation. Also, remind him that better than half of all bike accidents are not the bikers fault but, with proper technique and learned skills that not everybody learns without being taught, he’ll be more prepared for it and come out with a better outcome.
RobbieJParticipantTurtle Wax “ICE” for me. This can help keep my bike squeaky clean. Ever think about working in Sales? LOL. j/k
