RobbieJParticipant
If they revamp the Ninja 500 like they did the 250 this year, that will pretty much seal the deal for me on the 500. I think I’m going with the 500 anyways but, still considering the 250. A new and improved 500 with full fairing is a done deal.
RobbieJParticipantNeed I say more? LOL
RobbieJParticipantI’m willing to bet that if she’s an operating room nurse, if she’s seen hundreds of motorcycle accidents that are of no fault to the riders that she’s seen thousands from car accidents that were no fault of the drivers. Yes, there are drivers out there that do not look for motorcycles and that is why it is more important for a bike rider to be alert and aware of his surroundings. Where as car drivers are more likely to get complacent and less likely to pay attention. Insure you mom that you are not one of those fools who just wants to go fast and look good and that you want to just get the sheer joy from riding a bike and you’re gonna do it the safest way possible and it shouldn’t be too bad convincing mom. She’s your mom. Can’t promise you won’t hear about her concerns everytime you see her but, she’s your mom that’s her job, she’s not going to cut you off.
RobbieJParticipantSays 8 – 14 weeks for first issue. That’s perfect for my return from the desert. Can’t wait for first issue. Thanks for the heads up.
RobbieJParticipantI’ve done a little bit of shopping around and you’ll be relieved to know that the Ninja 250R is not considered a sport bike with insurance companies. You’ll get a reasonable price, I believe. I’ve got some time on ya being 33 y/o but, I have never been licensed on a motorcycle and was quoted at around $600/year with full coverage by Progressive. That’s not bad, at all, I don’t think. Also, one of the best features I’ve noticed with the Ninja 250 and the 500 is their resale value. If you get either of these 2 and you decide in a year or 2 that you want something bigger you will not have a problem selling them. Knock around $500-$1000 off of the MSRP and it will get snagged up by somebody in your exact circumstance now that would rather spend a few hundred less and a few thousand miles on it than the full cost of a new bike. You’re doing yourself good with the 250, from what I’ve read, you won’t regret it.
RobbieJParticipantGrew up just outside of Syracuse, NY. Am currently in Iraq and home base is in Savannah, Ga, with my wife and 9 month of son. Have PCS orders for Ft. Rucker, Al (near Dothan, for anybody who doesn’t know.) Will be there early in 09′, more than likely.
Hey Jade, I am a Flyers fan, though. I really dislike Pittsburgh right now, though.
RobbieJParticipantSomething I’ve noticed, even before I read on these forums, is that the Ninja 500’s have an excellent resale value. A bike only 1 or 2 years old is still selling for approx. $500 less than original cost. So, on that kinda cost difference, I’m pretty certain I’ll buy new. However, if I can find a great deal, I’ll go with a used bike. Just, it’s gotta be a great deal for me to do that.
RobbieJParticipantGrowing up, my father never had anything other than Kawasaki motorcycles. So, I am a little partial toward them. However, I won’t let that be my sold decision for getting my bike. I have checked out the GS500F online and it looks like a really nice bike. I like a mixture of the both of them, actually. I like the full fairing on the new GS500F and it also has a little more HP, if I’m not mistaken. But, I really don’t like the color scheme they have on the new one and that cyclops looking headlight, geeeeezz I don’t know if I like that at all. LOL. I intend on checking them both out when I get home and will make my decision from sitting on the both of them and the oppinion of my wife. There’s only about $100 difference in MSRP between them so, I’m sure I can work that under $5k or maybe some toss in equipment.
I really do like the sport bike look and know I am interested in the 500 cc range. If there is any other newer bikes out there that you can suggest, I like doing my homework before going to the dealership. Something I learned while selling cars, I guess.
Thanks again.
And btw, AaronMerlot, I will do what I can to get home safe and thank you. I chose to re-enlist after a 10 year hiatus from the Army.
RobbieJParticipantI used to sell cars and to clear what you heard up, most car dealers keep their numbers by fiscal year and not calendar year. So, the dealerships year for numbers sold might actually be in Feb or March. Was that way at the few different dealerships I worked for. To help out a little bit more, they mostly focused on their monthly numbers. Commissions were based on monthly sales and they like to try and put a few extra out towards the end of the month to pad their numbers a little bit. Some circumstances, they will take a small loss to get the big bonus for the higher numbers sold. I don’t know what the markup on a bike is but, trust me, I’ll find out.
RobbieJParticipantI am in the market and intend on take a training course when I return from my deployment, as well. I was looking into the insurance cost of certain bikes I was looking into and weighing the pros and cons of the difference of a Ninja 500 and the Ninja 600. When I asked for a quote on insurance for the 500, I was very pleased with the $600/year, they said. This is including medical and a few other things that I won’t need because I’m in the military and it is covered for me. So, I’ll be able to knock some of that down, also. However, when I asked about the 600, it was a significant difference. My yearly went up to nearly $2500/year. That would increast my payment to nearly 4 times the first. What I did learn was that even thought the Ninja 250 and 500 are in the sport class of bikes, insurance companies aren’t classing them in the sport range. Not entirely sure why but, who am I to argue, right? So, after that and reading on these forums, I’ve decided on the Ninja 500. Not that the 250 wouldn’t be enough for me but, I have a lovely wife that I wouldn’t mind showin off on the back with me every so often, too. I just wish I could get the Ninja 500 with the same fairing as the 250. Damn, that’s a great looking new style.
