Seeing how my ride is 30+ miles one way to work …. I thought about it as most my ride is interstate. After thinking about it …. I elected not to . For me it builds in complacency which in turn will slow your reaction time. It can also (IMPO) be more danger then helpful. Lets take 610 …your cruising around…. one of the “gangsta’s” from 5th ward are riding with no headlights (if you”ve been there long enough you know what I am referring to).No worries you can’t flash your headlight to get into trouble anyway BUT you manage to miss seeing that 2X4 in your path cause your headlights didn’t cover that distance. Now unexpectedly you hit said 2X4 with your hand resting on the rocker/paddle or whatever…. bounce, throttle, oh sh1t.

Minus the floorboards and add a little more forward positioning on the new pegs and its a winner for me.

They seem to be a tad upset that they lost a fellow 250 owner. Some of them seem to be more upset (in between the lines) that they haven’t yet got the nerve to step up, and others are just staunch fans. The guy with the tire wear pictures…… I’d laugh at him…..I have had my bike for 3 months ( Vulcan 500 for refresher) and my so called chicken strips make his look mild. I spend 90% of my time in interstate but ride plenty of back roads with twists and turns. I know the area you ride and its not “straight lining”
Don’t worry with their opinions…you know your skill and your comfort. Ride the new bike til the wheels fall off…. its not of their concern.

Granted she was crossing to much at one time but that doesn’t mean she shoulda saw the car. At 85+mph gaps get closed in quick and things can appear from seemingly nowhere. I have had similar experience on the ride to work. I am already pacing general traffic at 75 mph …. get over one lane to get passed a “Blue Hair” and then look in my mirror after taking the lane and theres a truck on my rear that I can promise wasn’t there a minute ago. After passing the “blue hair” I get over and the truck moves passed me at a rate that is ridiculous. Chances are he crossed over 3 lanes to get to the outside about the same time I went the 1 lane. If your in the back…… its your responsibility not to run things/people over, granted its in everyones place to look before leaping. Its easier for them to tap the brakes then it is for some to throttle away.
Morning rush hour (or evening) should not be anyones personal slalom run. Though I see it alll the time. “Johnny business” is running late…. donut in one hand …paper in the the other balancing two fingers on the wheel and other two holding the morning paper. Running through traffic like a rookie running cones in MSF. Here one minute…there the next.

As they say in MSF though….. all “accidents” have more then one “fault”.

I am jealous.. I am contemplating getting a new one next spring, I love the Vulcan however the only….and I mean only problem I have with it is it isn’t reasonably able to be customized. Not without alot of money being spent. I think I am gonna start looking in the ads somewhere near tax time. I plan on keeping the 500 still though. The woman is gonna need something to ride on. A co worker got the same bike you have only a year or two older….though I can’t for the life of me understand how he hasn’t ridden it to work yet. He knows how to ride just hasn’t gotten off his duff to get minimally his permit. Blows my mind…how can you have a new toy and not want to play on it. Oh well soon as he does though I am gonna see if I can get a test run out of it to compare it to the 500.

side note: Elwood.. I liked your first quote better…. not agreeing on this one atleast from a literal translation. Greek and Rome in the times he refers to are failed societies… Mostly due to over extending their forces from greed of “needing a bigger empire”. I would hope if one could ask he would mention that the “soldier” need be abroad in defense but more close to home for security.
but thats off topic,,,,, sorry .

I know probly a lil off as I really rarely can tell the difference between one sport bike to another…. but I always here “highway to the Danger Zone” in the back of my head when I see one…………

Before you blast me…. yes I know there are subtle differences like the front end….or the light housing shapes , feet position etc….. but come on admit it…. most, not all but most sport bikes you can almost match each silhouette up perfectly.
And yes cruisers have the same problem. Thank god for badges.

Don’t sweat the box…..hardly anyone gets it in testing…. I got it in practice consecutively after the second time and I got the feel for it…. but in testing…. broke plane once…. testing is always different.
I hat the whole down shifting thing on the quick stop I did it fine…heck even stopped way short of what was expected…. but in a real moment….. your already death gripping the clutch and brake after the end….. and then taking time to do a personal systems check before even riding on. Oh well…. practice practice practice… I am sure its in there for good reason. So I keep doing it for just in case.

Cannot see why it wouldn’t ….. the only downside, which isn’t really if you keep your hand on the grips at all time like you should…would be in high wear areas its not gonna last….. just spray lightly and multiple cured coats.
