ParticipantIt’ll go faster then you realize. Then you will wish it was longer. Just make sure you listen and learn …. ego’s aside.

ParticipantWelcome…and … well lucky you with the great scenery to ride through.

ParticipantThis I have experienced and look to see if I can pay it forward. When I had the unfortunate mishaps with the V500 every time I had to hit the side of the road someone stopped to make sure I was ok or if I needed some assistance. The first one was a mildly older lady… she actually got of the highway in the opposite side to turn around and check on me. Told me “Wanted to make sure your ok, I ride to and we have to look after each other out here”, after convincing her I was good she drove off. Wow …. the humanity that some people still care to stop. The next time I had 2 riders stop to check as they were on their way to the beach for a rally. After making sure I got it fired back up they rode off. Now every time I see someone off to the side I do my part to return the favor by checking on the “in stress” rider.

ParticipantOk this is bothering me. Anyone who has ever ridden and I mean ridden a 4 wheeler knows how quick a real 4 wheeler can turn especially on the black top…. and how you suddenly become that lil kid on the “merry go round” that couldn’t hang on. I don’t care how much of a suspension you got on that thing, how are they planning on keeping the rider in the middle during turns?

ParticipantUmm…. I run those when I was a kid….we called them 4 wheelers and were a tenth of the price. You want open air and 4 wheels get a convertible. You even get a multitude of color options , cup holders, oh yea and the ability to put the top down for the sudden rain storm. Sheesh, can’t the fluff and stuff find other things not to screw up? First they turn Jeeps into H3 wannabe’s and now this…..

ParticipantThankfully I have my floor boards. Though at times I miss the pegs. I am needing to get myself to ease off a bit on the turns… I am starting to hear board scraping more then I probly ought to. “chicken strips”=0

ParticipantWish my story was as thought involved. I grew up around bikers. Mostly the old school Harley types. For entertainment they would pop Fat Boys up and see how much gravel they can pick up with the rear fender. Of course as a kid this can scare the bejeebers out of ya. So 20+ some years later…. I am at my shop and shooting the bull with the other mechanics. Motorcycles came up and I told them how it was cool that some of them would ride but I didn’t have the intestinal fortitude to get on one and hit the highways. Apparently that was the wrong thing to tell my brain. 2 days later I found myself here on BBM and reading all of Ben’s reviews. Settled on the V500 which I ended up purchasing a week after I said what I did. A week after that I had the Riders Edge course and permit. Riding regularly I put 3,000 miles on it before moving up to my current V900. I am now another 2,000 miles into riding the V900 and love every minute of it. Took my daughter on her first ride 2 up yesterday and am impressed at how well she did!I have gone through every imaginable weather experience with the exception of snow and ice. It just keeps getting more and more fun. Next month…. my first real long haul ride… will be going from Central NC to southern Georgia…I am stoked!
Work hard, play hard, and keep the rubber on the road!Munch
ParticipantStepping up? More CC’s or newer? More CC’s a V900 would be a comfortable step up. Though I will definitely caution you to get re adjusted to the power band changes and especially the torque delivery. The weight of the bike will come into play also.
Thats assuming your staying with cruiser types. I have the Vulcan 900 Classic LT. I can lend any experiences I have with mine to help .Munch
Participantwould be more with this thought pattern also. Although oil getting past un seated rings is not impossible you would have noticed the crop duster look behind you in the mirrors as it would burn the oil.
Though my biggest concern with this theory with the oil filter is I doubt the level will drop that extrememly. Filters have a limited capacity and unless it has a “flap valve” or check valve to bar oil escaping back into the resevoir it should still be in the case. I would echo what the others have said and 1) get the dealer to check it out and 2) unless completely satisfied with their answers make them replace the entire bike. Even if it was human error the damage has potentially already occurred.Munch
ParticipantHave to ask…when you check the sight glass …is it up right or on the kick stand?

ParticipantHonestly I would get a check up at the dr’s office just to make sure. If its just one finger exhibiting the condition there could be an underlying problem.
As far as Beginners go I would steer riders away from them until you know you have full control and trunk (mid body) strength. Have that on the throttle and not see a sudden dip or rise in the road can become dangerous quick if your body and arms aren’t in a condition to remain somewhat un effected.
A 90 minute ride… I wouldn’t need it that short of a ride… though I am about to partake on a 500 mile jaunt (1,000 round trip) and thinking about it. I turn wrenches for a living though and forearm strength and control is not an issue with me.
Seriously even if it helped you on the short runs, it’s just a band aid covering up a potential problem.Munch
ParticipantI nod also. Stop lights…. turns and general traffic will keep you from safely doing a wave.

ParticipantAll the above except #4 Legally if you have a bike with a cat it is illegal to remove it. Some aftermarket kits are made with replacement cats..even some OE’s make em….however…thats not to say you canp’t change it out, it is at your own risk. The emissions laws are Federal as far as Cat removal.

ParticipantWelcome,
Two questions… 1) what qualifications are you in ownership of? and 2) Does the ERC not cover that?Munch
Participantmakes sense. The fiber glass fairing will do nothing but buckle and completely render the purpose useless. Attach it to the the frame which is substantially more solid and the sliders can keep the damage off the fairings by being able to better support the bikes weight.
