Ok, I really did look for a “SEARCH FORUMS” feature (figuring this has been asked before), but I didn’t see it. So here I am…so I’ll get straight to it:

When getting an aftermarket slip-on exhaust for a fuel injected mid-range bike…

    1. Do you need to get a power commander (or re-map) or not?
    2. Do you need to get a fuel controller or not?
    3. If you don’t get either, will it hurt the bike?
    4. Will you still pass emissions?

I’m NOT looking for more power, just don’t like the bike sounding like a scooter. I’ve heard that you don’t NEED anything and it won’t hurt the bike. Haven’t heard anything about emissions testing, but isn’t the cat inside the OEM canister usually?

    State your claims…

    1. no.
    2. no.
    3. no.
    4. don’t know. we don’t have smog testing for motorcycles in california (yet) which would be the mechanism for testing emissions after buying a bike.

All answers are assuming you’re only changing the slip on and not getting a full exhaust replacement.

All the above except #4 Legally if you have a bike with a cat it is illegal to remove it. Some aftermarket kits are made with replacement cats..even some OE’s make em….however…thats not to say you canp’t change it out, it is at your own risk. The emissions laws are Federal as far as Cat removal.

Good stuff. Sounds like I don’t have to worry about the bike getting hurt if I’m just changing out the can. I’m assuming it would pop sometimes though? As for smog, I will ask around in AZ what the emissions testing laws are for bikes. Thanks for the help…
