Too small?…only you can answer that. The napping after eating rule…. I can understand that one. Kinda goes along with the 10-2&4 rule of days gone by. the “average” person will get a lil’ tired and ready for a nap after eating. That’s just a safety net to help keep you out of trouble. Not only that, would kinda suck to polish off a Chili Cheese dog jump on the bike to find out 10 mins later…. your gut didn’t agree with your choice… now your 10 miles into a 30 mile gap before the next off ramp.
I cannot see riding the bike from Up north to down south costing you $500+ thats insane. Well….maybe depending on the hotel you stop into.
As far as your “plans”. It’s nice to have a schedule to aim for a goal isn’t it? Honestly… toss it. You would do yourself a great service by putting some of that over excitement on the shelf about “stoppies” and “wheelies” for a long while. 1yr of riding….heck no…. 2yrs of riding? nu uh… its been said your going into a different danger zone there. 1st year is usually “I dropped my bike because…” kickstand was up, used front brake in slow turn, misjudged a turn etc etc. 2nd year…. you start getting a false sense of security and think you have a handle on things…then you get “Brain Farts” Next thing you know now its…. man I thought I was going slow enough to handle that hook… or I thought I had enough room to clear it. Or 65mph through the Dragon… aww man thats cake I take my exit ramps at twice that speed…. later you add a new piece to the tree.
Use your head and logic …not your ego and expectations to get you through motorcycling safely.

try to make small adjustments to the screw you heard about…if that don’t help may want to take it to the mechanic and let him check the carb and see if it needs cleaning/tuning etc. After being laid up for a while theres all kinds of things that could be the culprit. I would say take it to the local mechanic then ask if you can observe and start nailing him with questions.

Umm….what is your experience level? I ride the 900 and not sure I would look for it as a first. I started on the Vulcan 500 and can tell ya you will do good to have that to learn from before hopping straight to the 9. The 900 is about 200 pounds heavier… .a lot more torque in the lower gears…can get get scary fast if you decide to “lay into her” and well…. just all in all a beast for under 1000 cc’s. As far as Sport or Cruiser…. sit on both… see what your back, you soul and your arse tells ya. To heck with outward appearances…. it’s for your enjoyment…no others.
Congrats though! Shame it takes death to remind people to live.
Sorry for your losses…. however I am waiting my turn to go through some… with baby boomers getting to that time of their lives, it’s gonna seem like the world is ending to a lot of people.

I’d look into a couple of things with that..1) the additional extra costs to add it in there. 2) Exactly what is it limiting..just top end?
An option for you would to find an older 500 if you could. You sound like you have your head screwed on straight and have the responsibility to keep both wheels on the ground. Maybe some of the Sport bike guys/gals can chime in with some other options that are cost effective for you.

The beauty about bikes…especially cruisers is that stock is stock… the dream you have is after you taken the careful time to customize it the way you want it!

“Original Bike Spiris” is what I use. Sangria also had a product report in his editorial for another waterless cleaner too. Grab any of those and a micro fiber and you’ll have it done easily. Takes e 10 mins to clean my bike. I don’t have any kind of cover other then a dust cover…. and lots of chrome.

#1 Would not get my vote… graduated engine system…. nu uh… no go for me. First thing… Laws are only worth anything to those who follow them. The same idiot blowing that red light while inebriated will care as little about wether or not he has a license as he did when he got on there under the influence. Your only hindering law abiding citizens. These protect the stupid laws really need to stop. If they don’t pay attention before the law… they aren’t going to after wards either, more so they are more apt to go against it cause now it raises their “Rebel without a cause” syndrome.
Case in point: 8 yrs ago we had 4 high school kids hit an exit ramp at 100+ miles an hour… lost control of the car, hit the protection barrier and went over to fall 50 feet to a sudden end. They were coming back from a state championship game and the driver had been drinking. The speed limit was 65, which is more then safe due to the design and banking of the ramp. What was the states answer….. drop the speed limit on that ramp to 45 mph. Seriously!?…you think dropping that to 45 mph before hand really could have saved those kids….absolutely not!!!!! The driver was already 40+mph OVER the original speed limit. He did not care about the law….. see what I mean?
As far as motorcycles under the new emissions proposal. Well likely if they wanted to they can take the same avenue BMW. Mercedes and Chrysler (post Daimler buy out) did to get their cars here. Look around you. Whats the Urban Assault to econo box ratio like? Now days it’s evening out with fuel prices but 7 years ago you would find more jacked up minivans (SUV’s) then you would say a civic. Unless their was a “tuner” kid driving it. Smaller is definitely not a fashion sense in the states. Urban Sprawl has almost made driving a right as it is a right to survive.
