I never talk bad about Durham…just pointing out the obvious. Either way atleast it’s not like 5th Ward in Houston,TX!

Yea I haven’t checked for the other Manu’s but Kawi has a page on their web site where you can cross the VIN to check up on things like recalls and parts.
It’s a shame motorcycles are still considered luxury items, with the huge influx of them in the papers and 4 sale listings it would be nice to have something like Carfax for them.

Only thing I can say and cannot over state enough… Lo-Jac…. expensive but very worth it. As a matter of fact 8 biles were recovered here in “no-crime” NC (minus Durham) Because one owner had Lo-Jac installed. The cops traced the bike to the location and found 7 others behind that house that had been previously stolen. So for times when the crooks are better prepared….

hmmm other then above… if in a fix and nothing for options you can go old school farmer on it and use a cut potato to rub the oil on your lenses….. warning flies will find you later when you’ve stopped long enough.
This is just me and not recommended for anyone else… but in fog that likes to stay attached to my goggles/visor/ glasses…. I just take em of, flip it up or whatever til I ride out to a clearer section…usually the main highway for me… I am surrounded by swamps. Not the best in terms of safety ….but hey its me , and if I can find a way to ride…I will do so.

I am one of those guys that rides in everything unless it’s frozen. First tip… Rain-x or my favorite Aqua Pel. Then get an anti fog chemical, either from a bike store like cycle gear or from a place that sells diving equipment. Lastly no I don’t wipe my visor when I have my full face on. Turning your head from side to side (with the rain-x applied) will allow the wind to just push it off the visor without the smearing effect. Make sure though your eyes are still on the road, otherwise, unless you have previously forced yourself not to follow your eyes (which I spent a considerable time aiming to do so I could look at the scenery I was passing without worry of lane changing) you will risk going where you don’t want to be.
If not of that helps you and you get caught, and still uncomfortable..nothing wrong with stopping under a bridge or nearest corner store. These days especially with all the bells and whistles “phones” come with.
Oh and yea… braking is definitely more sensitive.

not bad honestly. Where I got my metzeler rear put on it was $56 just for the one… but that was mount, balance and removing it from the bike and back on. So $909 for two is average. Now if your walking in there with rims in hand and they still charge that…. naw…keep lookin.

Well got some upgrades on the V900 now. Will have to try and get some pics tomorrow while at work.
    New:
Drivers back rest….. definitely a good upgrade for longer rides.
Scootworks Phat Risers…..1″ rise over stock and 2″ pull back more then stock…best upgrade yet.. truly turning her into my La-Z-boy bike.
Kuryaken ISO grips…. not convinced on this one, but the cosmetics look good anyways.
oh yea and debaffled the OEM pipes…. has a definite growl and gets peoples attention quick! DMV has already tried to tell me it wouldn’t pass inspections… til I pointed out that their regulation are only in regard to emissions, and my cat converter is still in there…just the noise baffles are gone… they left it alone.

First… make sure you learn to focus. The OCC is fine as long as you can keep your focus on safety and learning. The Vstar 650…. not overwhelmingly to much for a beginner, however based from your starting post leaves alot of concern for the guys/gals here. Get your instruction first, worry about the bike second.
As far as used bike…def. look at the tires, age, tread depth, odd wear etc. Then ask alot of questions about service record, wrecks. Then look to see if the person is honest…..scratches, dents , excessive rust paint chips…the whole nine. Make sure the title is clear.
First and foremost though GET THE TRAINING!
