ParticipantI unzip my jacket from my pants and put it where ever there’s an empty place, chair, table, etc. When I’m walking around, i just wear it. not the answer you’re looking for, but…

ParticipantIn that case it’s more of the case of the rider making that bike look good.
J/K! <– sort of –>
congrats on the bike. Love white bikes. Looks good with you on it, so you should call it “hawt-piglet”.

ParticipantDon’t sweat it. it’s your money, your feelings, get what you feel most comfortable with. If they don’t like it, get new friends. You don’t need people pissing in your cereal.

ParticipantWelcome!
yeh waiting’s a biotch, but I think all the waiting will be worth it once you take it. I have enough experience to give you advice that could get you in trouble, so don’t listen to me. listen to the MSF instructors.
holy shit you’re tall… yeh, your height will have a big part in determining what kind of bike you’ll want to get. I’m average so I have no experience to draw on for your situation. Just sit on as many bikes as possible. Comfort will be an important part of your decision.

ParticipantCongrats on passing. Yeh, it’s the testing day that’s the most challenging. Doing what you practiced the day before at a snap of the finger. You can kick ass the day before but bork the test… something about pressure and all that. Again congrats on getting through it all.
Sorry to hear about the downed rider. hope he recovers quickly and goes again.

Participantin regards to #1.
Depending on what brisk means, I’m going to define it as light turning yellow and you can’t make it before it turns red and you’re coming in hot. yes, you could run the soon to be red light, but if you attempt to stop and assuming you’re not leaned, downshift and let out the clutch immediately to use engine braking to aid in stopping power. Lather, rinse, repeat until you’re at slow enough speed to just coast it normally as rab described in #1.
Alot of these suggestions depend greatly on the situation, so again until you can provide specifics on your situation, all these suggestions are just being thrown willy nilly and don’t cover all situations.
Edit: usually downshifting once is enough engine braking to significantly aid in slowing the bike down. I’ve done 2 downshifts one time. I’m usually in 6th gear so I tend to come into those brisk stopping situations quite a bit… but that’s our little secret…

ParticipantThe rear brakes between the two bikes are exactly the same. The front brakes appear to be different.
848:
2 x 320mm semi-floating discs, radially mounted Brembo calipers 4-piston, 2-pad
696:
2 x 320mm discs, 4-piston radial caliper
The main difference I noticed between the brakes on the 848 and the sv650s is you think of the sv650s as having 70%/30% front/rear braking power ratio, the 848 seems to me to be around 90%/10%. That’s taking some getting used to as well.
