The duc’s been fixed for while. Not taking it to the track until I get some more track miles under my belt. The tape’s for covering things that blink, light, or are made of glass. In reality, only the headlight and mirrors needed to be taped since it’s got glass parts in there and I disconnected most everything… And I wasn’t planning on using the front blinkers. Next time I’m taking off the mirrors, watching tape flap around was annoying as well as instinctively looking in the mirrors…

    Some clarification please…

    Lanesharing/Lanesplitting: Not permitted
    *

Riding Two Abreast/Side by Side in Single Lane: Permitted. § 20-146.1
    *

Riding 2 abreast sure sounds like lane sharing… Is riding 2 abreast dealing specifically with motorcycles? and Lane sharing/splitting dealing with 4 wheels + motorcycle?

Let’s not forget too that you can also be cited for speeding when lane sharing or passing. IE. traffic’s going 5 miles below the speed limit, you’re sharing at +15, which by itself, most LEOs won’t pull you over for, but since +15 above the flow of traffic is +10 above the speed limit, LEO can cite you for speeding.

Also bear in mind, for me personally, if I’m sharing and some vehicles are getting jiggy, I’ll ride the line… better to get the ticket than to get a SUV side panel…

    Tip of the day… Don’t crash… it sucks… :-P

Seriously, since you’re buying new… If you’ve never ridden a bike before or ridden a bike with lots of vehicle/pedestrian traffic, get someone to either tow it for you or an experienced rider to ride it to your destination. A significant amount of crashes around here happen not too far away from the dealership.

    Welcome to the forums… :-D

if you’re worried about the wet on the street, then a sports bike. Wider tires, bigger contact patch. Supermoto-style bikes, lots of fun though. A lot of advantages to a supermoto bike. They’re lighter, more maneuverable in the corners, very flickable. More upright seating position. Can go offroad and onroad. A sports bike has more range than a supermoto with a bigger gas tank. They go a lot faster in a straight line. Having 2 sports bikes, my next bike’s gonna be a dirt or dual sport. If you hate washing your bike, you might want to just go with a sports bike, because the temptation to take a dualsport/supermoto offroad would be just too great…. :P

Agreed. Getting a variety of vehicle/motorcycle related laws from the different states is a good thing… Especially for those who want to do cross state motorcycle trips.

Not to be pedantic, but lane splitting is illegal in california. Lane sharing is legal. There’s a legal difference between the 2. Lane splitting is defined as riding on the lines and constitutes an unsafe lane change infraction. Lane sharing is 2 vehicles in one lane between the lane lines.

    http://www.bayarearidersforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=154980

Edit: I should elaborate… Lane splitting described by ben above, straddling the line, is illegal. Technically, lane splitting is supposed to mean lane sharing, 2 vehicles occupying the same lane. But, the definition of lane splitting has come to be synymous with land straddling, which is illegal. ie. You can not ride the white line…

Yes, there are LEOs that will enforce this. My guess the majority of enforcement would be add on charges. So you’re speeding, you get pulled over, and the LEO adds the aftermarket pipe to the ticket while towing your ride. And EPA approved pipes have a stamp on them engraved on the can.
