Participanthrm… I’ve seen these points/rep systems abused like crazy… not sure it’s needed anyway as people will make judgements on what’s posted… just my $.02…

ParticipantHello Eisblumen from Canada. Happy to hear you getting into motorcycling and doing the research and getting a bike you feel you’d be most comfortable with. Hope to see more from you and your motorcycling adventures.

ParticipantSorry about your get off. I’m glad to see the gear worked for you and you made it pretty unscathed injury-wise. Heal up and worry about the bike later.

ParticipantYup. 2 piece zips are ok. I got a 1 piece a while ago though.

ParticipantYeh. it’s the zen classic theme. Looks like this theme doesn’t show the avatars either. It’s actually a nice theme otherwise.

ParticipantIt’s later, so what happened?
megaspaz
ParticipantThe original zen theme’s missing the BBM logo/header at the top of the site.

ParticipantIf you’re bike’s air cooled, it can overheat if you’re stuck in traffic doing nothing or stop ‘n go. You probably don’t want to be on the bike if you’re gonna get stuck in winds that 75-100 mph… If it were me, I’d keep the cage for those just in case moments… Like you need to shop for lots of stuff, pets to vet, etc. Truck’s are useful for hauling your bike to track days.

ParticipantMust be a louisiana thing. In cali, the dmv test doesn’t do figure eights. There’s a circle thing whose diameter is smaller than the figure 8 box width on the msf. Plus, unlike the MSF, if you put a foot down at anytime, touch the line or go over it, you auto-fail. And the dmv test procters here make sure you everything you do is done at a slower speed than the msf. So in cali-land, the DMV practicle is indeed much harder than the MSF rider portion test.
edit: i’m assuming you took the dmv practical in the state you said you’re from.

Participantcanyon dancers don’t replace tie downs. it wraps around the handle bars and then you hook the tie downs to the strap on the canyon dancers. Without canyon dancers, there aren’t a whole lot of places on the clipons to hook the tie downs to. While it’s tempting to have the tie down hooks hook around them large screw things, that’s bad as those are your front suspension set up screws. Any movement from the hooks will loosen or tighten these screws.
edit: link and pic on how it works.

ParticipantI’d gather motorcycle manufacturer’s recommended break in hasn’t kept pace with the improvements in manufacturing. The ninja’s break in, for example, hasn’t changed since 1982. It’s up to you how you wanna break in your bike. I, myself, used a hybrid break in for both the sv and the duc. I follow the manufacturer’s break in for the first 500 miles, change the oil, and then ride the bike the way i plan to ride it. Babying the bike initially probably helps from early deformaties in engine parts that might occur running it hot right off the bat. But with newer generation bikes, I’d fathom to guess that the bike’s engine should pretty much be broken in by the first 500-600 miles.

ParticipantI guess I’ll have to be the source of reason here… Go for the gusto and get a busa…
Actually, like suggested above, sit on as many bikes as possible to see what’s most comfortable for you. The 600cc thing here refers mostly to new generation inline 4 sports bikes. There’s a few 650cc sports bikes that you can do fine with, but since it looks like you’re looking for more standard/cruiser style, I’ll leave to those that ride those style of bikes. At the end of the day, all that matters is that you’re comfortable with the bike you buy and that it makes you want to ride it.

ParticipantRight on. My SV passed 10K miles on xmas day, a lovely rain ride loop. My duc passed 3K miles on xmas eve. I wonder how many miles i missed for that month and a half after i crashed in october… what ifs, what ifs… I still have to say, the best part of 2008 was april when i started riding. I’ve met so many people, ridden so many roads… I haven’t so much fun in my life, since I left home for college years ago and found out college bars don’t card for beer…
I wish everyone many more happy miles in 2009 and beyond.

ParticipantMy guess is he’s referring to some of the motorcycle review articles. If I click the Motorcycle Reviews link in the top menu, that page is 1) not done up like before with images and article snippets and 2) articles aren’t there. For 2) on that index page, I click the 2008 ninja part 4 review and all I see are the comments and no article.
