I’m a bit of a youtube whore so I thought I would put together a video of the motorcycle accident I just recently got in (december 2008).

Ride safe guys, my gear definitely saved me from a lot more damage:

Left hand turn much…. wow, that tire is severely un evenly worn. Glad your relatively ok. Welcome back to your site. Guess one thing I hate to notice is that some your own advice needs to be revisited to your own situation. You had the gear but in disrepair. Glad it didn’t go worse.
Hope you have a speedy recovery!

Yep I should definitely follow my own advice a bit better hehe. At least I followed the part about wearing all the right gear! ;)

I am very sorry to hear about your crash, but am glad to learn your injuries are not life threatening. The site does a great deal to assist newbies such as myself. However, for what it is worth: Lane splitting between cars seems to be one of the most dangerous practices in all of cycling. Automobile drivers simply do not expect a cycle to be alongside where they may have looked just a second ago to see only a car. As happened to you, an open gap can close so quickly there is no time to react. I know most cycle crashes are caused by car drivers “not seeing”, but lane splitting between cars seems to be an invitation to disaster.

Get well soon and thanks for the site.

Hey, Ben. Thanks for the video–it’s sobering to learn of people’s crashes. Your video said you’d be out of commission for 2 months. Does that mean you’re back on the road?

Yeah lane splitting is definitely pretty dangerous, but I definitely think it is one of the biggest benefits of riding a motorcycle. Honestly I’m not sure I would ride half as much if I lived in a state that didn’t allow lane sharing. California for the win!
