Does anyone have experience loading a bike into a uhaul? I’m moving to Los Angeles on Jan 10th, so comes the uhaul. Just looking for advice and stuff, and if anyone is in San Carlos who just happens to be bored that day who would like to pass on their experience and knowledge of loading and tieing down a bike inside a uhaul…haha

2 straps to secure the front handle bars and two for the rear. I suggest you have someone sit on the bike while you secure it down to make sure it is sitting up straight. Then turn your fuel petcock to the off position.
You will want a ramp as well for on and off loading. No real secret to securing your bike down. Just make sure there is no slack or movement.

January 3, 2009 at 10:54 pm #15515AzN LogiKParticipantwhat’s the advantage of canyon dancers to regular tie downs with hooks on the end?
January 4, 2009 at 12:43 am #15518megaspazParticipantcanyon dancers don’t replace tie downs. it wraps around the handle bars and then you hook the tie downs to the strap on the canyon dancers. Without canyon dancers, there aren’t a whole lot of places on the clipons to hook the tie downs to. While it’s tempting to have the tie down hooks hook around them large screw things, that’s bad as those are your front suspension set up screws. Any movement from the hooks will loosen or tighten these screws.
edit: link and pic on how it works.

January 5, 2009 at 4:03 am #15544AzN LogiKParticipantthanks. when my bike broke down on 280 many months ago, the nice guy that pulled over put the hooks of his tie downs on where the handlebars meet the front fork (he knew what he was doing).
my mom said a uhaul is too expensive, so i’m gonna find a truck to put it on sometime in the next few months, and drive it down to LA. does anyone have a truck ramp or motorcycle tow trailer i could borrow for a weekend at that time?
January 5, 2009 at 5:31 pm #15552MunchParticipantBah…. sounds like alot of wasted effort. Just get a friend to follow you to your new destination…. ride back with him. Then enjoy the Ninja back. Why waste a good riding opportunity.
January 6, 2009 at 2:08 am #15554Sangria7ParticipantI agree..just ride it back. I would!
