ParticipantIt is an 05 and had a little over 7k on it when I got it. I paid a little over 2k for it.

ParticipantYep that is my baby ninja. I was surprised when I showed up to look at the bike. The guy that had it before me took really good care of it. I sort of feel that I owe it to hime to continue the tradition.

ParticipantGreat choice. I talked with a former ninja 250 owner last night who now has an SV650. He loves both bikes but said that he is so glad he didn’t start out on the 650. I have the little ninja and couldn’t be happier.

ParticipantWatch the tires. Got that from Idiot’s guide to Motorcycling. If you see tires turn your way a car is sure to follow. watching the tires gives you about an extra second reaction time.

ParticipantI started looking at craigslist about two weeks from my class and had a deal locked down the Friday after the class.
A friend that I took the class with, still hasn’t got himself a bike yet though. He is looking, but hasn’t settled.

ParticipantLooking at the original question, the whole riding in anger is not what is going to get you. It is when you unintentionally blip the throttle, drop the clutch, or grab a hand full of brake that you are going to find the differences. I was going a little faster than I thought the other day and had to stop suddenly and grabbed a little too hard. Thankfully I was on a little 250 ninja that I can pretty much hold up regardless of how far it goes over or at leas slow it down to where I can get out from under it and keep it from hitting too hard. I have been riding that bike for over a month with no situations like that, but when it happened, I was glad I was only trying to hold up 300lbs.
I would suggest the Ninja 250, or even the hyosung 250. Aprilla is importing their 125 and I don’t think that would be a bad option either. A small and light bike, although they may seem like they will cramp you up, are going to give you the confidence and experience that you need to become a successful rider.

Participantwhile in a turn if you want to turn harder, then you push down harder in the direction you wish to go (counter steer). You actually counter steer to get out of the lean as well. Enjoy the site and good luck finding the new ninja. I would (did) go with a used bike first. I almost dropped mine this week.

ParticipantI don’t know how you upgrade from a ‘busa. I thought my next bike would be a ninja 500 but I sat on the 650 after having been riding and it felt really comfortable.

ParticipantI have been looking at one of these for a while. I have no first hand experience with it so I can’t endorse it, but I may get one.

ParticipantI never could get lady riders. Oh, wait. You mean mentally understand them. That is different.

ParticipantHe was speeding because he was miserable in the rain and wanted to get home. Another advantage of ATGATT is that my gear is waterproof. That unexpected shower isn’t so bad.

ParticipantI don’t think looks should be the whole reason, but it plays an important part. You are not going to ride a bike that you think is ugly.

ParticipantWhy is that a problem? They have short doorways in Texas? Seriously, you could ride either a sportbike or a cruiser. do you want your knees bent in front of you or behind you. Look at the Versys, it sits up really high.

ParticipantThe Brotherhood of the Road by Shalom Auslander
I love motorcycles, and I love riding. Like many of you, what first drew me to bikes was not just the experience of riding, but the feeling that I’d become part of a special community? a brotherhood, really. Nothing calms me more than a long ride down the interstate, waving to the members of my beloved clan.
Except when I pass Harley guys. I hate Harley guys. Hate, hate, hate. When they pass me on the highway, you know what I do? I don’t wave. With their little tassle handlebars and the studded luggage and the half-helmets? God, they drive me crazy.
You know who else I hate? BMW guys. Oh, I do hate those guys. I don’t wave at them, either. They think they’re so great, sitting all upright, with their 180-degree German engines. God, I hate them.
They’re almost as bad as those old bastards on their touring motorcycles. You know what I call those bikes? “Two-wheeled couches!” Get it? Because they’re so big. They drive around like they’ve got all day. Appreciate the scenery somewhere else, Grampa, and while you’re at it, I’m not waving to you.
Ducati guys? I don’t wave at them either. Why don’t they spend a little more money on their bikes? “You can have it in any color you want, as long as it’s red.” Aren’t you cool! Like they even know what a desmo-whatever engine is, anyway. Try finding the battery, you Italian-wannabe racers! I never, ever wave at those guys.
Suzuki guys aren’t much better, which is why I never wave at them, either. They always have those stupid helmets sitting on top of their stupid heads, and God forbid they should wear any safety gear. They make me so mad. Sometimes they’ll speed by and look over at me and you know what I do? I don’t wave. I just keep on going. Please, don’t get me started on Kawasaki guys. Ninjas? What are you, twelve years old? Team Green my ass. I never wave at Kawasaki guys.
I ride a Honda, and I’ll only wave at Honda guys, but even then, I’ll never wave at a guy in full leathers. Never, never, never. Yeah, like you’re going to get your knee down on the New York Thruway. Nice crotch, by the way.
Guys in full leathers will never get a wave from me, and by the way, neither will the guys in two-piece leathers. And I’ll tell you who else I’m not waving at those guys with the helmets with the loud paintjobs. Four pounds of paint on a two pound helmet? Like I’m going to wave back to that! I’ll also never wave at someone with a mirrored visor. Or helmet stickers. Or racing gloves. Or hiking boots.
To me, motorcycling is a like a family, a close-knit brotherhood of people who ride Hondas, wear jeans and a leather jacket (not Vanson) with regular gloves and a solid-color helmet with a clear visor, no stickers, no racing gloves and regular boots (not Timberlands). And isn’t that what really makes riding so special?”
