ParticipantUsing your clutch is easier on your gearbox. Smooth shifts are something that will come with practice. I find on my GS500f that shifting at 6000-6500 rpm or higher makes for a nice smooth shift. Any less and it’s a little jerky.

ParticipantI dont’ care for the looks of the Blast, but that’s just personal preference. If you’re interested in a ‘forever’ bike I would lean towards the 500.

ParticipantWhen you look in the tank, it will look like you still have a lot of gas, but you will need to switch it to reserve to get it to run. Basically, the bottom part of your gas tank is your reserve. If you think of the fuel line like a straw, when the fuel level goes below the top of straw it can no longer draw gas. Switching the selector to reserve allows fuel to be drawn in further down the straw.

ParticipantThat is a very nice clean bike.
ShannonG
ParticipantNow that’s good advice!

ParticipantPRI stands for Prime; you set it to that setting when the bike has been stored for a long time. If you ran it totally dry of gas before switching over it may have taken that much to get it started again.
Your GS500f likes to be revved up. I cruise at 5000+ rpm. Anything below 4000 and it chugs a bit.
Your helmet should be snug all over. Like you couldn’t chew gum comfortably.ShannonG
ParticipantDid you tell her to put her bum against it and grab below the seat with her hands? That way her legs do the lifting. Do a search on youtube for how to pick up a motorcycle.

ParticipantHa! Exercise time, children!

ParticipantThis is so classic. I met a woman at the bike shop yesterday who was as new a rider as I am. Her first bike is a SV650 and she’s lost control of it and scraped it down a guardrail on the Trans Canada Hwy. Now, the SV is a pretty noobie friendly bike but then she was looking at my husband’s Shiver and going on about how she should get rid of her Suzuki and get one. I was sort of like, “Um, learn to ride the one ya got!”
ShannonG
ParticipantThat’s my only realy complaint about my Suzuki. And after a little research I found the RAV4 is pretty much exactly the same size.
I would LOVE a Higlander hybrid but they’re like $40k!

ParticipantBe safe and have fun!

ParticipantAfter some thinking I have decided to keep my ’01 a little longer. I do like it, it’s a great little car. Maybe in another year I may take the plunge on a RAV4. Apparently they get super mileage.
ShannonG
ParticipantI would say it’s a comfortable riding position. I was going to put a lower rise handlebar on mine until I did a couple of longer road trips.
ShannonG
ParticipantSo…your helmet ATE your hair? You seem to be missing some on the sides.

ParticipantOr a six seater sidecar!
