In think you’re on the right track. Don’t be put off by 500cc bikes; they’re very managable.

I would think if you offer a refundable deposit of some kind it shouldn’t be an issue.

“Robert’s your father’s brother.” But only if you’re Cockney.
I can’t believe you’ve never heard that saying!

Usually that’s dry weight, but a 250r only weighs 330 lbs dry (I think). You’re not going to get it with a full tank of gas unless the seller is rich or nice or both. If you’re worried bring a ramp, but if the truck is 2WD sometimes it’s almost easier to lift them in.

If you drop the tailgate you’ll get another 18 inches of cargo room. Yes you will need tie downs, probably four minimum for the bike and one the go across the back wheel if you leave the gate down. Three strong guys should be able to lift a bike into a truck.

Find a quiet place to practice starting and stopping. Don’t just head out onto the street and expect everything to be OK.

A school teacher on a flaming bike! I love it!

“Today, children, we’re going to take a little field trip to the parking lot where teacher will show you how to do a burnout….”

You know, if you are really having trouble coming up with $$$$ for gear go to a thrift store and buy a leather jacket for like $5. Even non-motorcycle leather will offer you decent protection. You could probably even find leather pants on the cheap! And you can throw a costume party and dress up as a Village Person when you’re done with it.

Cole, I know where you’re coming from. I have a weakness for Gixxers and sometimes dream of seeing myself on one. However, every time I think seriously about how wicked cool I would be on a supersport I end up doin g something stupid like missing a shift or going into a turn too hot and blowing the apex. On a 150 hp bike that could have deadly consequences.

I would say each individual rider is different. But if you’ve got 2000 miles total lifetime ride mileage, you’re not ready for a Gixxer.

There is a company that makes a knockoff HJC helmet; they have three letters for a name too and for the life of me I can’t remember what they are!
I’ll get back to you on that but they are cheaper than an HJC.
I have an armored mesh jacket with a zip out liner that I love for hot weather riding. It’s Joe Rocket.

I was wondering if you had sold your 250. Did you decide to hang onto it a little longer?

This sounds a little like me. Only I am not taking my skills (low speed) test until I’ve gone to a parking lot and drilled the crap out of some safety cones. I get nervous in test situations, and that’s going to kill me.

All I can suggest is be patient. If you have two car payments then you must have two cars, so it’s not life or death that you get the bike right now, I assume. You may miss out on this riding season entirely as people will start selling their bikes once it’s over. You may find something in your price range then.
