I think the sport vs. cruiser decision is strictly personal preference. Many people like the look of a sport bike but don’t like the feel of being hunched over the gas tank. Sit on them all and decide which one feels the best.
That said, I have an ’08 GS500f and love love love it! Sporty, forgiving, comfortable. The GS Twin engine has entire websites devoted to it of people who love these bikes.

Call me crazy, but I think a cruiser style bike may be more amenable to saddlebags than a sport bike. But I don’t know for sure.
