I found a brand new Hyosung gt 250(minus all the fairings, therefore not the “r” model). A local dealer has two of them, both are held over from 2005 and I can walk out the door with one for less than $3,000. Should I go ahead and purchase this or see if I can save up over the summer and afford a Kawasaki Ninja 250?

June 3, 2008 at 3:08 pm #6935DaveGuestI’ d personally stay away from the Hyosung.
I lived in Korea and am very familiar with hyosung products. Ive ridden the 250 Comet (Which is the almost exaclty the same bike as the 250 here) and it doesn’t feel as smooth and well put together as the Ninja. Also, the reliability is questionable at best. Although I’ve had a couple friends put 40,000Km on their Hyosungs (125’s), my girlfriends Sense scooter suffered catastrophic engine failure at less than 2500km. If you do buy one, get the longest warranty available. Over there, the Hyosung bikes were significantly cheaper than comparable Japanese ones. This justified the lower quality. However, over here since the prices are much closer, I see no reason to buy a Korean motorcycle over a Japanese bike, unless you absolutely love the look of them. I personally would never again buy a hyosung product.
For $3000 you can pick up a really good used 250 Ninja, a Ninja 500 or a GS500. I highly recomend used simply because you may want to move up in size after a short while (perhaps) and you can avoid being hit with the depreciation on a new bike. Plus, you may still find used ones still under warranty. (Suzuki’s extended Warranty is completely transferableand has unlimited Km, I bought a used 05 that Is still Warrantied until the end of 09)

June 5, 2008 at 8:16 am #7040RobbieJParticipantI have read alot of different reviews and some forums on the Hyosung. I’ve read that a very high percent of people who get them are very disappointed with their bikes and a high percent of them took delivery of them with missing parts that any new rider wouldn’t look for. After reading on them some more I have completely eliminated them from my list of possibilities. I’m back to the Ninja 250 or 500. I’ll know within 2-3 months.
