just wanted to see if anybody has one and what they like and dont like about it…….took a look at one last week and almost bought it …….only thing I didnt like was the seat height( wish it was about 2 inches taller) and the fact that it maxed out at 70mph…….sat on the xr650l which actually was a bit tall but could still touch the ground with both feet……

i have a kawasaki 250 dual sport and it maxes out about 70 in windy conditions and 80 downhill, so i feel what you’re saying. the crf230l is a perfect bike to start on, but the price is ridiculous for a first bike. if you’re wanting a dirtbike that’s legal, and must have a honda, go for it, but you can find kawasaki klr-250’s for 2 grand less all over the place, they’re the liquid cooled version of my air cooled kawi super sherpa.

if you can flat foot a 650, find a kawi klr650L, a suzy DR650, or a xr650L and go that route. you won’t top 100 or so, and they might buck you off, but you’ll keep the bike forever. they’re all old school, tried and true, and a lot more forgiving than a 500/650 sportbike.

also, i love the thumper sound, and the low end torque. not to mention the ability to go anywhere, and further learn dirt/sand riding conditions because those are much harder than riding on pavement only.
