Lots of good points in this topic.
Just remember everyone has different learning curves and different abilities. What you have to remember is be honest with your own skills. Don’t let anyone tell you what you can or cannot do – saying that, take into consideration everything said here.
I made the jump from a 250 to a 650 in 30 days and a lot of people flamed me for it – but now with 4000 miles under the saddle; I am glad I tried out the 250 first and made me a better rider on my 650. When I go to rallies, a lot of veteran riders think I have been riding for at least 5 years ..hehe.
Sangria7ParticipantI tested this helmet and its good and all…however, I dont wear it anymore as I find it bulky.
But here is the review that I put in the magazine I write for (go to page 28):

2007 there was not a lot of helmet innovations and Gmax certainly proved to outdo a lot of manufacturers but I must say AFX has really impressed me this year (see post below). They are certainly top notch as I have been in contact with their President and they have tons coming out this year….more to follow.
Sangria7ParticipantSo I have been testing AFX’s new FX-16 helmet…and its awesome…I mean for under $150 it is not only DOT approved, its Snell and ECE approved….
Best helmet yet (from the 7 I own/tested)….I should have the review in a month or two.

Bottomline: Get yourself a new helmet that you know might save your life!!
Sangria7ParticipantTry Ebay?
Sangria7ParticipantThe helmet fitting guidelines:
http://www.hjchelmets.com/proper_fit.htm
Bottomline they are always very tight brand new and it will take several hours of wear even weeks to break it in properly.
Sangria7ParticipantThe ISO’s are awesome….then attach a crampbuster (www.crampbuster.com)…man long trips are a breeze…
February 28, 2009 at 10:50 pm in reply to: Biking mods, what’s your plan or what have you done? #16812Sangria7ParticipantI am glad no longer live up North. Upstate NY was crap, OH was cold, and even Kentucky got snow LOL.
Anyways current mods:
1. Engine Guards
2. Jafrum Saddle Bags
3. Boulevard windshield
4. Kuryakyn ISO Grips
5. Blue LED Light Kit
6. Punisher Etchings
7. 3-Hole Exhaust ModI would eventually want Vance & Hines Cruzer pipes with the Kuryakyn Hypercharger….but the $1000 investment into those things can easily go into a new bike as well…..
Sangria7ParticipantWell I wasn’t the original poster…I simply quoted him LOL
Sangria7ParticipantAny of those would be fine LOL
Sangria7ParticipantThe plan is to get experience writing for smaller magazines like Thunder Roads, to build up my portfolio, then after a while start working for some large magazine like Cycle World……
Thats when the real fun begins…
Sangria7ParticipantElwood: LMAO!
Sangria7ParticipantIt will take off all major grime….just make sure you have plenty of towels…. I was actually surprised.
Sangria7ParticipantYea military standards are strict. The vest has to have so much reflective material on it and as Medic said it MSF is required.
Helmet is also required on base – as far as I remember.
Too many troopers die on bikes every year….
Sangria7ParticipantThe Rebel 250 can do 80MPH and has about 70-80MPG – thats what I got anyways on mine.
Sangria7Participantok ok SO I had it backwards….LOL
