Participanthaha….yea every group has their A-hole clicks. I had a B’mer blow past me the other day cause apparently his time was worth the 150 dollar speeding ticket he got 2 miles down the road. I slowed….looked….waved…grinned and kept going. I pass his house everyday. This guy is definitely one of those RB’s that set the stereo types about spoiled rich kids. ROFL …had to suck for him to watch me get to the destination quicker then him in the end ….and much cheaper!.
Wave at em all…. if they don’t wave back… shrug it off….not all of em can be good people. As for the car behind ya…. they are thinking your stretching more then waving… unless you make it completely obvious.Yesterday is a memory, tomorrow is a prediction, but today…… is a Bi**h

ParticipantThanks y’all
I played with the height of the windshield today and took her back out… Much better.Think I will keep it on . I have a full face when I ride… as I would like to minimize the amount of reconstructive surgery needed should things go awry. Got to play on her for about 2 hours then a mean warm front came in with 35 mph crosswinds…. definitely a fun feeling when your still adjusting to a bike and a cross wind decides to help ya lean in a turn a bit more…lol. Soooooo happy I learned on the 500 first.
lookng forward to spring to test out the force field between me and those bugs… June bugs…. rose beetles…small birds… i’ve been fortunate to smack em all!!!…. now I can try it without the ” WTF, dang that hurt!!” reaction.Yesterday is a memory, tomorrow is a prediction, but today…… is a Bi**h

ParticipantLOL…..don’t take offense….but being here in the Triangle area ( Raleigh). You cannot imagine how funny it is that your in Florida. For the few of us that are natives in NC our joke about how many NY’ers that are here now is that they are the ones that didn’t plan their finances far enough ahead to make it to Florida.
Yea I am in the Raleigh area, the dealership I will buy all my Bikes from is just off of 95 (should you stop through on your next trip back up north) In a town named Selma. If you’ve ever driven through NC its exit 289 (if I remember correctly)….can’t really miss it you will see signs for JR’s super outlet and cigar store ( yes its ok to laugh..I am in the south… ofcourse we have tobaccoa product stores) and the Outlet malls. There’s a Sheldon’s HD dealer there to. Don’t blame ya for not liking Charlotte.. wasn’t a fan either for the few short days I was there. Raleigh it seems is trying to compete…..which is why I remain a country boy and my ride to work is pushing 45 mins. These darned Homeowners associations keep popping up and these housing developments keep moving any closer……my drive will get longer.Yesterday is a memory, tomorrow is a prediction, but today…… is a Bi**h

ParticipantSimple …change lanes. If not an immediate option try signaling to the driver that you intend to at first available chance. If they still are overly aggressive use the shoulder to get out of the way. Speeding up only encourages them to “push ” you up the highway faster. I hit my signal….if I see them soon enough I will flash my brakes a couple times to try and ensure they see me, hopefully before they get to you you have an opening to change lanes. If no openings and they are really bearing down on you and you feel threatened or severely uncomfortable about their intention…. pull off to the side and let them pass. Your safety is not worth their convenience.

ParticipantLane sharing in NC is specific to a vehicle encroaching on a lane that a single motorcycle occupies. Motorcycles can ride two abreast but if a car, SUV, truck etc. tries to occupy the same space/lane that a motorcycle is in it is illegal. Much like say passing a Bicyclist on the road by a car using most of the lane to get by.
I think the wording was meant to “blanket” the different terminologies or interpretations used in different areas as you had pointed out in another of your responses.
You cannot “split Lanes” in slow traffic here to get through …you have to wait your turn like the rest of the commuters.Yesterday is a memory, tomorrow is a prediction, but today…… is a Bi**h

ParticipantDisadvantages…not really any I can think of… might actually benefit you more as it would get the instructors to have that in the forefront of their mind and give you tips and techniques to survive a wet ride.
Other then that…Welcome!Yesterday is a memory, tomorrow is a prediction, but today…… is a Bi**h

ParticipantBefore splitting hairs too much…. the contact patch in question…wide or narrow has to have the ability to shed water to not hydroplane. A bald 1/4 inch patch is just as dangerous, actually more so then say a passenger car tire. Less chances to regain traction in the instance of slippage.
Also the contact patch on the bikes offer more room for deeper leans in turns. The “V” shape of the tire is specifically for that. The harder the lean the more rubber on the road. Cruisers are not made, or atleast by basic habits, for carving a turn at radical speeds which is why they have more of a “U” shape. Keeps a decent amount of straight line rubber.
Snow ( this is more for cages, if its snowing I hope you have better sense to stay off the highway on a bike)…. well the jury is out on that one… leave that to the drivers skill. I can float 33’s (inches) or 35’s over the top of snow or I could chose to run a meager 235 (metric) to try and “cut”my way through it. All depends on application and skill.Yesterday is a memory, tomorrow is a prediction, but today…… is a Bi**h

ParticipantIf your “zipping around ” inner city… A 600 sport is not really gaining you much of anything. That powering out of trouble just gets you to a different trouble at twice the speed. I live in the south so not really sure what your implications are there. No town in the south hates bikes…and I have been all over the place. Matter of fact The furthest north I have been ….atleast for more then 30 mins is D.C. .
Your best solution is learn maneuverability .Also make yourself more visible! Reflective gear, bright clothing/gear, modulating lights if need be. I ride combination Highway, city, and back roads. Only place I feel the most uncomfortable is in residential areas. To many not paying attention. I am a weird one on here as I am actually more comfortable on the highway….not to do with my skill but heck… everyone’s running the same way you are, so barring something out of the ordinary …. keep pace and your golden, watch your sides for the idiot that thinks multitasking is a natural talent though.. Back roads are fun, picturesque and down right peaceful.
Get MSF under your belt both for you and your mom. This is not a mountain bike your jumping on. Ride in the margins of your comfort…not your ego or pressure from others. If it feels to big….probly is. If its too cramped… could be a problem in slowed reaction times later should something arise… but these all are more to do with size and ergonomics..not engine size. Most bikes out there will do what you ask of them and likely more.
Be honest with what yor needs are…make sure that its gonna get covered then maybe look very conservatively of what you want it to do. Better to start smaller and learn then to jump to a big boy and end it. Not the time to use the theory “If hes gonna learn to swim just throw him off the boat “Yesterday is a memory, tomorrow is a prediction, but today…… is a Bi**h

ParticipantAll these posts makes me glad I have the family I have. That and I am over 30. LOL…. I never had to worry with Mom’s approval or permission. All I would get is… “As long as you know what your getting into and understand the consequences then its your decision….oh and don’t think of asking for help until your in dire need cause I aint coming!” ROFL…good ol mom…always letting me decide my fate all the while pressuring me to take responsibility. I knew she’d come running regardless but I also knew better then to get my butt in a sling.

ParticipantLooked into other postings of this elsewhere and thought about something. I am surprised the aftermarket players aren’t up at arms about this to. As densely populates as NY is…. thats gonna be a huge chunk out of their pockets.
Do I agree with loud pipes……no …atleast not if I can hear ya a half mile away like your sittin next to me. Is it my place to tell you what to do with the money You worked for….. hell no.
All these Prozac babies and their attempts to justify “control” over others is a serious overcompensation for the lack of success in their own micro world. Now we know why Vettes are declining in sales.
Even though I also do not like the idea of lobbyist they are a necessary evil……. at times. AMA is a good place to start….another group helping to take up the banner is the BRC…Blue Ribbon Coalition ( I think its what the C is) . Been a member of BRC since I had my jeep. BRC helps with all things not caged. and some that are.
http://www.sharetrails.org/I hope that all persons in NY that see this posting take action and not inaction. Stand up ! So you get sit down and ride your own ride. Not what the old fart thats been locked up in a 3 piece suit and a blood choking tie thinks you need to ride.
