ParticipantI will say this… As far as the internet goes…. it doesn’t take much to be an expert. I can promise you this though…. no matter how you run it, if something goes wrong inside the warranty period and you did not run it the way the MOM says…. warranty will be VOID. Make sure you have all documentation of any work done.
There are tests they can/will use and comparisons from their examples they will match your condition up with. No matter what the truth is that warranty will be based off what they find…not what you know or what “slimjim5” said on the runitlikeyoustoleit.com website
As with riding the break in period the risk is yours.
I follow the break in period as closely as I can. Being an auto mechanic I have seen just about everything. Not to mention, and I meant to say something on here and now seems appropriate.
When I bought my 900 I was talking with the Service manager there. They had a customer that bought a 125 for his wife. The wife refused to ride the bike so the guy decided ( very dumbly) that he was gonna abuse the bike and blow it up, thus ignorantly thinking that Kawi would be forced to buy the bike back. So he took it out and rode it around in extreme high RPM’s overheated the engine and bent the intake valve. Now instead of taking a hit on the trade in value he is now straight up out of the whole purchase…money and bike. I got to see the head…. obviously this guy thought they wouldn’t be able to tell.
The decision is yours…. as with my safety with gear…. I would rather error on the side “safe then sorry” then to just be sorry.*****************************************************************************************

ParticipantWell I finally got it done… alot of changes from my original idea but I am happy with. You can click on the link above to hopefully see 2 new shots of the finished project. I omitted a shot of the back due to the low lighting and the fact that I used my camera phone but the back has a spade-ish shaped area of black that I opted not to pin stripe in.
Well give me your thoughts, critique or even the WTF were you thinking.
Oh yea remember I wanted it to better match the 900…. for a refresher look go here:

ParticipantWelcome!!! How does our tomorrow look?
Anyways.. I commute almost everyday on mine. Winter time here…its all about the layers. Summer time. I wear a textile jacket with a zip out inner liner. Honestly with mine not sure the purpose its in there for other then the odd brisk start to the mornings in the spring…. even then the wind protection is minimal, it also has the CE padding at the elbow and shoulders. My riding boots are Vega touring… these things so far to date are to me my best spent money on gear. The things feel like slippers but offer shin protection and good grip on the road at stops. There are a multitude of pull over riding pants out there that you can get if your the business suit kind of guy. In which case also recommend some kind of hard case or leather saddle bags for storing the Jacket and tie. I am a cruiser guy and even in the summer I do where my leather chaps. Yes for a while I got the whole “Village People” joke…until I explain to them that my commute is normally near 75 mph for 45 mins and if the bike goes down, I know it isn’t complete protection but, I would rather be down to about 30 mph or so and shorter distance to stop before it wears to my legs then just straight up losing everything at about 70. I plan on looking into the Draggin Jeans this summer just for the added benefit.
Thats my two cents worth of input… welcome to the site…. stay a while!*****************************************************************************************

ParticipantGeneral consensus throughout the web is House of Kolors..though in my lil redneck area (proud of it :^) ) The selection gets limited.
FIRST and foremost see what material your helmet is made of… ABS plastic… go with paints that are made to bond with plastic… even get a bond promoter if you can find it. Primer… a very neutral flat color. To dark and it can adversly effect the shade of paint your using. Remembered that lil trick from the few auto paint shops I’ve been to.
Me I went to auto zone……the Metal Flake Blue (which the picture doesn’t show off well) is By Dupli-Color and is their Metal Specks brand. The black is a Gloss Black from Krylon (yea yea Krylon and duct tape… redneck accessories)….. their Fusion line.
Of course again… all this depends on your Helmets make up.
I am going back over it with a clear coat sealer from the local Michaels craft store.
I also bought a roll of brushed aluminum pin stripping from Auto Zone…. 1/8 inch thickness…. as of right now…. after I pull the masking tape I will see if I use it or not.
Hopefully a near finished picture to be updated tomorrow…atleast after first coat of the clear coat.***************************************************************************************

ParticipantBTW…I am adding my steps and lessons learned as edits to the original post. In case your interested its not a forgotten project… just have to re read the top to see the changes. Will keep up to date as my progress runs. I am fighting 12 hour work days and cold weather which slows the process a touch… so it may take 3 or 4 days total for me…. which the good news is … after christmas we hit 60’s again and I can go out and show it off!

Participant“computer assisted traction control, on the move suspension control, ABS, tire pressure sensors, and a lot of other things.”
Hmmm…. got that in my Monte and its paid for! Ok except the on the move suspension control…but that argueable…want a stiffer ride stay on concrete… softer… there is a shoulder to that road…lol!!! Sorry I have a natural distaste for B-mers…. I work on some of their cars ….. wasted money.
For what it is ..it looks purdy

ParticipantThanks…. being my first one… this is gonna be about as basic as you can get. I have no airbrush equipment and seeing how its gonna get retired to winter weather use…. I am not gonna spend alot of time drawing up anything to make it … exciting.
Just want to make it match the bike a bit better.Yesterday is a memory, tomorrow is a prediction, but today…… is a Bi**h

ParticipantI think if I were to win a lottery I may get the Streetbob that I have been after, but to be honest… the 900 is just about perfect…. well aside from the add ons I plan to dress her up with…. but I can really say …. an Upgrade at this point is not even a thought. Give it about 10 yrs …. maybe. Yea I traded the V500 in only lost about $500 on the trade from what i purchased it for… then got that back off the price tag on the 900. I opened her up a bit today…no need for aftermarket pipes…yet, the stockers are pleasant yet a mild reminder of what you got…..open her up and yea….. you can wake the neighbors.
The 950 I am not sure about , for some reason here the dealer I bought both bikes from sells everything but has to do it in separate locations. The shops are about 2o mins apart. I imagine there will be subtle difference. Seeing how Kawi redid the 800 to become the 900 back in 06 Vstar had to come back with an answer… the 950 is almost a complete mimic except they had to make it different somehow….so why not try and squeeze out another 50cc’s , oh yea… at about another $200 for that 50cc’s too. Paint options varying the price too ofcourse.Heres a link for a side by side comparison:

The tank is 1 gallon smaller on capacity…and welll you look and see….
Thanks for the compliments!Yesterday is a memory, tomorrow is a prediction, but today…… is a Bi**h
