Welcome! IMO, there are bmw bikes that are bmw beginner bikes, but not for new beginner riders. Look for more friendly bikes to start on. Motorcycle addiction’s only good if you can keep the rubber side down. ;-)

This is just my opinion, but he could’ve taken it slower. He wasn’t doing anything obnixious, but from that vid he didn’t have to take off like that either. But that’s the hard thing about brand new bikes from the dealer… What you would normally do, isn’t (might not be) the right thing to do. Basically, the only thing I know other than riding easy on your bike from the dealer is to do burnouts to burn that stuff off of the rear tire, which isn’t really recommended.

According to http://www.sideroadcycles.com/importedmotorcycles/importhandlebars/StockBarsOne.html , the height of the sv650 is 3.5″. No measurements for the sv650s or sv650sf though. I imagine they would be close to the sv1000s at 3″ handlebar height though.

Caught a rock or something on 101 south today. Cracked my visor right about where the right cheek would be exposed… Good thing I was going to cycle gear anyway…

Don’t feel bad about going slow on a road you’re not familiar with… Every experienced rider will tell you to take it slow. Congrats on busting 1K and next time filler up before going or top it off and reset the trip meter. :-P

Yup. The sv650 (naked street fighter) will have the most upright riding position compare to the sv650s or sv650sf. And comparing the sv650 to the 650r riding position, I’d probably guess that the 650r would still feel more upright. If someone just wants an sv650sf and the upright position, a cost breakdown comparison would be interesting between 1) getting the sv650 and getting all the fairings afterwards and 2) getting the sv650sf and getting the bar raised…

Either way, I’ve come to the conclusion that both would make good beginner bikes… with the usual caveats though…
