Hi all,
I’ve been a reader of the site for a while… a great resource for anyone looking into getting started on motorcycles! I signed up for the MSF course last summer and took the course last October. Anyways, here’s some pics of my bike after I gave it a good wash It’s a 2000 Suzuki SV650.
In case others are interested, here some of my gear that I wear EVERY time I get on the bike for a ride:
– Arai RX-7 Corsair Helmet (Frosted black)
– Alpinestars ACR Air-Flo Red/Black
– FirstGear HT II Textile Overpants
– Held Steve Gloves (Black/Tan)
– Joe Rocket Big Bang BootsMaybe it’s odd, but part of the fun about riding a motorcycle is the gear. I like to research all different types of gear and see what other people use. Hope you enjoy the pics!

The mesh jacket is really nice in the hot weather, but mine seemed to ride up the back a little bit which made me think it might do that if I crashed. Ever since I got my leather jacket which has a drop tail (basically the back is SUPER LONG) I haven’t worried about it. Now that summer is coming up though I am thinking about sewing a zipper from my mesh jacket to my overpants, that way I can ride in safety.
I’m also thinking about getting some just regular pants instead of overpants as well, for the really hot days anyway.
Question, when you walk around in your overpants do your thighs ‘swish, swish’ a lot? Mine do, but I have an older version of your pants, so I’m wondering if they fixed it or not.
Great looking SV by the way, I really want to get one as a dedicated track bike!

Ben, to answer your question, yes, my thighs swish a lot… it doesn’t appear that they had fixed this issue in the version that I have. Interesting comments on the jacket riding up. Mine does the exact same thing, and it’s very frustrating. I have been looking into a different jacket for that reason. My other option is to sew the jacket zipper on to the pants, or vice versa since they both came with zippers with the mating end attached that you could sew to a piece of clothing that was not by the same company.
Have you found any pants that have caught your eye to replace the overpants in hot weather?

Since my moto is my only form of transportation, it would be nice to be able to go somewhere and not have to wear my overpants around, especially in the summer. Right now my ‘dream pants’ are the BMW Santiago’s.

I’ve seen people wear them in real life and they just look pretty normal and really comfortable. The only downside is their price, nearly 400 bucks! I’ve been looking around to see if I can find some on ebay, but so far no luck
I’m sort of considering the Firstgear Mesh-tex pants, but i’m pretty sure they will make the ‘swish swish’ sound that I don’t like with my current pants. The plus on these is they are only 120 bucks and are definitely made for the heat, while the santiago’s are made for all weather and might be hotter in the summer.

I think for now I’ll probably hold out for the Santiago pants, or something similar.

May 7, 2008 at 9:30 pm #6109datattooedParticipantI got a pretty stupid question… I am seeing over pants and everything else, but what would be a good pair of pants to wear over dress pants? If I was to ride my bike into work, I have to wear a suit… therefore, would need to have a pair of pants that went over dress pants and wasn’t too damn hot.
Any suggestions?
I’m loving the pics of the red SV650. Congrats on a gorgeous bike!!

I’ve since been working on adding some upgrades to the bike. Once I get everything put on, I’ll post some more pics I hate waiting for packages to arrive…
Oh, and I added/swapped in a new piece of gear. I picked up a Teknic Freestyle jacket. Love it so far
