Took a morning jaunt up Calaveras Rd. on a whim today starting from Sunnyvale/237. A few photos linked below. Some notes about this road. It has got just about everything to knock you and your bike down. From deer (saw one and thanked a higher power it ran off the road instead of in front of me), horse poop, vanishing edges, bline decreasing radius turns, etc. The road from the Milpitas end is very gravelly and uneven. The road is rather skinny as well (about 1.5 lane width instead of a full 2 lanes) until you come to where the florists are, more towards the 680 end of Calaveras. There are bicyclists, cars, and other motorcyclists. Best to take this road slow, IMO. Twas my first jaunt up this end of Calaveras. I was constantly in 2nd or 3rd gear and never above 3rd gear. I’ve done the Niles Canyon end of it many times though. That end you can take faster.
1st stop above the Calaveras Reservior.
Calaveras Reservior.
Two trees on a hill above the Calaveras Reservoir. They seemed interesting at the time…
A stone wall. Also seemed interesting at the time…
Some park at Old Canyon Rd. right before Fremont on Niles Canyon Rd.
First time on the other side of Niles Canyon Rd. Trying to take pics of vehicles/motorcycles going by, but iSuck ™…
A small lake at the park.
A big hill above Niles Canyon Rd. Seemed interesting the time…

< img src="place your image URL here" >
Hopefully I will be able to get it so you can just add opening and closing image tags like you do in forums.

July 8, 2008 at 4:24 am #8554ShannonGParticipantI really, really like your bike. The pictures on the Suzuki website really don’t do it justice.
July 9, 2008 at 12:51 am #8581megaspazParticipantThanks. It’s getting there. I think it’ll be pretty much done once I get my pazzo shorties. I have to agree, Suzuki doesn’t do itself any favors on thier website with these bikes. I really should learn photography or something, because when I do remember to bring my camera, everything still seems kind of ‘eh’ to me…
I kinda wish there were more pics in this forum from other people’s rides, adventures, etc. as well…

July 10, 2008 at 6:39 am #8622megaspazParticipantsure. This was on a whim though… I literally just decided to go right after I got out of the shower. So we should have a more concrete way of contact, probably involving exchanging cell numbers. There’s a couple of roads I’ve been hearing about, like 84 to livermore which is at the 680 end of calaveras, but I’m not too up on roads here in cali, and when you get to the tri-valley, it gets really hot over there. I’m really kinda itching for another BBM thing, but this weekend and next weekend’s bad as I have committments on the sat. and sun. of each of those weeks. Anyhoo, I should let you know that if you’re looking for spirited back road riding, I won’t do it. I’m more of a mellow pace kinda rider, especially so on roads I’ve never been on before, so you might be bored riding with me…

Although getting to California would be an obstacle and I would probably be tired from the cross country trip. Well, maybe one of these days. “I am the best I am at what I do, and what I do ain’t nice.”-Wolverine
July 10, 2008 at 9:08 pm #8666JirikiParticipanti only have 2k miles under my belt, so my ‘spirited’ riding barely keeps up with a prius
what happened to PMs?
July 11, 2008 at 5:34 pm #8688megaspazParticipantAh.. the PMs… Ben had to disable that do to some wierd issue with PMs… I guess if you’re on facebook, you can try to add me as a friend… When that’s complete, my cell number’s on my profile….
