ParticipantI got my new gs500f that I was talking about in an earlier form!!!!! Im extremely excited, every time I walk by it I have to start it up!!!!!! I bought a hjc helmet, alpinestar gloves and im saving up for a jacket (no highway rides till i get some leather). I paid $2500 dollars for the bike 2007 year with 1200 miles on it because the guy got tired of it and purchased a daytona 675 triumph. I just finished my msf riding class and im so thrilled but I know im barely ready for the streets and no where near the highways. Any suggestions with that I know you guys love to advise on bike, and pretty muched forced me into the truly better decision.(thank god this bike is more than fast enough). But I want some tips that i didnt learn in msf class. Stuff like confidence, and supressing your nervousness. IM not scared and the less nervous I am the easier I ride?HELP!!! Oh and when I was riding the suzuki 250r in class it was different than my 500 by alot. WHen i ride my 500 and i have it in 2nd or 3rd exetera i let off the gas wait a second or two and then get back on it it shudders like it wants to stall. the reason I feel that it does this is because i need to shift up later in my speed level and im not used to the higher revving nature of the sport geared gs500f compared the schools 250 cruiser?!?!!??! I that right or am I in trouble. please say that im just shifting to early. BEN CAN I POST PICS????

ParticipantYeah, sounds like you might just be in too high a gear. At least in third. Second gear should be able to take you down pretty damn slow and not feel like it’s going to stall. Though with my tiny amount of experience you’re probably better off not taking my word for it.
As far as your bike goes, Congratulations! The GS500’s look like a lot of fun. And in the realm of confidence…. all I can say is don’t be afraid to look like an idiot to meet your goals. Not more than two weeks ago I looked like a fool in front of all my neighbors feeling out the clutch on my newly aquired bike and stalling the hell out of it. (Many, many times) Must have spent an hour in the turn-around at the end of my street before I could take off halfway decent. But got the hang of it eventually. Confidence will come in time. The real thing to be afraid of is ego and macho-ism. That’s what’ll get you killed.

ParticipantYa ive probably drove up and down my street 50 times, ya that bike gives me a really distorted feeling of speed at like 5 mph it feel like 15-18. I love the gs500f fairings it looks almost like a gsxr. how long have you been riding wishpool?

ParticipantCongrats on the bike. Sounds like you got a good deal.

ParticipantSounds like a great deal. Ive found NOTHING worth looking at locally as a first bike(all 650’s and bigger, too expensive(Harleys) or dirt bikes) And the shops…wow seeing a 2007 GS500F there yesterday(great shape) $4500 and a 2005 for $4200 . Went and looked at the Buell Blasts today..1 2008 left in whole store $4700. I know it does not seem like a lot but im more in your closer to $2000 category than $4000 category..so looks like I may be out of luck. But glad you are finding stuff.

ParticipantHonestly I think im gonna give up on the Motorcycle thing for this year and get the darn learners course out of the way. By the time I actually get that and am able to ride it will be to late anyways, I know I should have done this last year but hindsight is 20/20 I guess..at least then when im looking I will be able to test drive what im looking at instead of just saying that looks nice wonder how it rides lol…Guess I kinda was putting the wagon b4 the horse as far a getting a bike.
