the 650R i was going to buy was sold the night before I could check it out… so I am still riding the 250R.

I will need to buy a 650R and then sell my 250R, i had been trying to buy/sell within the same 1-3 days, but it is hard to find a blue 650R :(

there had been a lot of interest at the 4000-4500 price point…

it can make it there… it’ll beat a prius, but obviously isn’t going to match a hayabusa…

one thing to note, top speed with my build (6 feet, 195 lbs) would be around 100 mph… or so i’ve heard…

    btw, i have the 08 250R

from what i’ve heard, toes/balls of the feet on the pegs… keeping back of feet against the bike…. this helps you when you grip the tank with your knees as you decelerate…

maybe he was just a cruiser rider at heart?

as for no rear brake lever, he may have a system that applies front and back brakes at the same time… but i’m just speculating on that one

shoei was the only brand that fit my head… apparently my head has expensive tastes… try them all on, find what fits best…. protection is all the same (just differences in aerodynamics and venting)

saw that megaspaz had a fog shield in his helmet this morning… i used to have these on my parents car back in the day… didn’t realize we could get ’em for moto helmets… (that was for shoei)

yeah, i left quite a bit later… like 6ish… traffic was still pretty crazy tho…

thanks for joining… it was fracking cold! got some inadvertent slow speed practice…

btw, 1 was screwed up this morning because a lot of roads/exits were shut down for a 10km race… stupid pedestrians!

that is actually one of the definitions of squid…

after a crash, there is a nice little ball (head in helmet) followed by a bunch of red streamers…. makes it look a bit like a squid :P

So far, the only maintenance on my 08 250R has been the first dealer service (at 625, i got it done at 750). That cost just under 200 bucks.

I have also paid about 30 bucks in materials for chain cleaning/lubing. I still need to buy a rear swingarm stand and swivel bolts for the bike before I actually clean the chain (doing this tomorrow, should be around another 160 shipped).

In another 1000 miles or so, I have to change the oil, guessing this will be 40-80 bucks.

That would also bring me pretty close to the next scheduled dealer service, need to decide at that point if I am going to do the work, or bring it in..

I’ve heard tires generally last 8-12k miles before they need to be replaced, faster if most of the riding is on highways…

    to sum up… i’d expect closer to 500 a year…

plus, once you buy a bike… you are going to want to buy all kinds of extra stuff… like fender eliminators, tank protectors, more gear, magazines, etc… so you are going to drop some money on that too :P

the 250R (and to some extent 650R & SV650S) are definitely more sportbike than cruiser, but they are nothing like a CBR600RR or GSXR600.

They actually provide a very upright riding position. I find it more comfortable than the trip to the gynecologist that was the MSF course…

you already had the sliders installed, right?

250R still need holes drilled and stuff welded to them to get sliders :(

    but yeah, 08 250R

depends how much you want to tuck on the highway.. I am 6 feet and the riding position is fine all the time except for tucking… there is no way to get below the windscreen. As such, you might want to invest in a double-bubble windscreen so you can tuck less… that being said, the 250R is a bit more upright than say a SV650S, so tucking isn’t as natural anyways :P
