fun, just signed up…
let me know when you go up… can make a ride out of it…
btw, what was the highway we came down last time leaving SF that passed by a lake on our right? it was incredibly beautiful…
JirikiParticipanttrying to find a used 650R… once I get that, i’ll join you spaz
ah, and one piece leathers… I was looking at this last year and they said it would be hard to pass safety without ’em…
2 piece leathers that are meant to zip together are acceptable too (like you have?)
JirikiParticipantI had to do this about 2 months ago… friend of mine who had been riding bikes for years suggested it and was kind enough to push… unfortunately the battery was so far gone that it didn’t help… but it sure was interesting the tachometer went haywire and would point straight down (which is way below 0). I think that the reason it wouldn’t stay started was because the headlight was sucking up all the juice that would otherwise be charging the depleted battery… I am thinking of adding a switch somewhere to be able to completely turn off the headlight.
if you are jump starting from a car (which does work), don’t turn the car on…. the car battery has enough juice to jump start the bike… but the car alternator will overpower the tiny motorcycle alternator and fry it (also, it just dumps excess power into your chassis, no point heating it up)
I had to come back the next day and take the battery out and plug it in… thankfully I work where there is a lab… definitely got some weird looks when I hooked up a battery to a power supply (not ideal, but if you apply the floating voltage to a lead acid battery it will charge)

JirikiParticipanti use both…
i have knee/shin guards under jeans with textile pants over everything… the knee guards that came with the pants would move around too much for my taste…
it is a pain to put on the armour (but you could conceivably leave them on all day, not that uncomfortable). Armour by itself does nothing to stop road rash though, so if that is your main concern you will need to get some form of pants.
Additionally, I am guessing the armour’s straps would get shredded by the pavement and then you’ve got nothing
JirikiParticipantI am not really suggesting this… but you can lean down on the tank and put your feet on the passenger pegs… kind of like skeleton luge…
obviously you can’t shift and you have no rear brake… and center of gravity is higher… but it is less fatiguing… haven’t tried myself, but I know some sport bike riders who use this strategy if they are going 300+ miles on the super slab…
your much safer bet would be to get a double-bubble wind screen so you can tuck a little less…
JirikiParticipantI just got the maintenance manual for my 250R and it goes through all possible maintenance procedures with pictures. This is actually the same manual that the technicians use when you take your bike to them.
So, if you have some previous experience or some know-how.. it is pretty easy to do almost any maintenance. The only thing holding you back are specialized tools – which you can buy.
If you are going to do the maintenance yourself, I highly recommend getting one of these manufacturer’s manuals.
JirikiParticipantby “wiggle” he means move the steering left and right… not wiggle the key…
i usually push the wheel all the way to the left… turn the key to lock… and then pull up on the key as I press the left hand grip forward a bit with my hip…
JirikiParticipantI have a HALO that i bought for my Shoei RF-1000 helmet…and it falls off after you hit about 50 mph… definitely get tape instead…
that over jacket reflective vest is pretty slick… i’ll have to look into that..
JirikiParticipantbrake light modulator:
will flicker your light brake light in a ritardando fashion (eventually going solid after a few seconds) whenever you apply on the brakes…. think of it as a strobe light that goes solid… link to random modulatorI am also looking into putting tape on my helmet… the best play to get it is ebay… search for scotchbrite or 3m tape and you will find some…
i don’t know how easily it comes off…
don’t weave though… if a car doesn’t see you and goes anyways and you have no control because you are weaving (can’t brake, etc) then you will go splat
JirikiParticipantotd = out the door
(this means the bottom line charge to you to ride the bike out of the shop, taxes, registration, crate, build, etc all included)
not sure about ttd… but maybe ‘through the door?’
September 26, 2008 at 9:36 pm in reply to: Considering a new 250 Ninja, I’ve got questions for 250 Ninja owners…….. #12827JirikiParticipanti broke it in by staying under 4k… i just went on really twisty roads in the bay area where you can’t go above 30-40 mph…
and it is 4k for first 500, 6k for second 500 miles…
when i got to 500 miles, i was comfortable enough with the bike to increase my speed from 30 to 40 mph in the twisty sections… now i go through much faster, but it was a good way to learn…
JirikiParticipantwondering how much i could sell mine for
JirikiParticipantget the kawi oil.. all dealers have it… it was cheap and won’t be mixing oils…
you are still breaking in? so don’t go synthetic…
JirikiParticipant…
