Let us know how your purchase and riding goes. I have a GS500 myself, and I enjoy it, but I’d still recommend you looking and sitting on more bikes. And start getting your gear too!

Sounds like ckholiness did a class like I did. It’s not the MSF class, so he/she needs to test with the state or with the motorcycle school on a day when the secretary of state people come and test. and these people do not test in the rain. Anyway, welcome. I’m nearby in Mokena.

Thanks guys! That seemed helpful. Not sure if I got everything spaz is saying, but I’ll read it over a couple more times :)

can you talk more about how larger sport bikes are less tolerant and don’t like corning changes? what is it about them exactly that gives them those characteristics or is it how the rider typically rides them (too? fast!)?

Dancing girls would be totally rad right now too, and just about any other time.

I’ll keep it, but I think I’ll try another vendor for my next helmet. Even if it came from the manufacturer that way, I don’t understand why the gloves I had also ordered were put inside the helmet box. I’m not used to having the product packaging opened beforehand and it obviously was in this case. oh well.

wow. I don’t think Rab meant to offend you like he did with his original comment. And now it’s just getting worse because of the misunderstanding. many of these posts aren’t helpful, so where’s budd with one of his great comments to lighten the air? budddd…?

I ordered from extremesupply. They had really low prices, but this is my first helmet, so I was wondering if this was normal shipping/packaging. EON and LongRanger is getting at my concern. It just doesn’t seem like very good packaging to eliminate impact damage. I buy everything online, and my electronics/gadgets come better packaged from the factory and reseller. It sort of seems like the helmet box was opened and the packaging thrown out before it was shipped to me. So, how does it work when you buy one from the store? You just walk away with a helmet in your hand?

If your wife takes the MSF course herself and learns to ride, she might become an ideal passenger, but wouldn’t it be more likely that she’ll want a bike of her own and never want to be a passenger again? I’ve heard this happening before, so you might want to start saving up for another bike :)

I heard of a $4,000 price tag a little while ago, which was one reason I was considering an 08 – used or new. A $500 increase definitely put me off to the idea of getting a new one next year. The $3500 MSRP of an ’08 ended up being like $5200 OTD at the dealers around here. So add $500 to that for an ’09, and that’s too much me. I think that may help the resale value of used ninjas for the beginner though.

How do you have the rear suspension adjusted? I hear it can be easily adjusted, changing the seat height. Might not want it at one extreme or the other, but still gives you some wriggle room right?

hahah, your inexperience is blinding me. I like those odds. I bet they’re official stats too.

Andrew’s just saying that traffic does move faster, but there are several lanes of traffic – Some drivers are slow and some are fast. I will be taking expressways and I’ve given it some thought and decided to get a GS500, but I’m assured by riders that the Ninja 250 can do 70-80 rather comfortably. In the Chicagoland area, this would be more than adequate.
