I have this dilemma too. I’ve heard of getting insurance for 6 months, but then that might be too short and cut into some fine riding time. I ended up getting full coverage and comprehensive for the entire year. To be honest, I really didn’t check out all the options, but I figure this way I can still gear up, and ride in the winter on the nice days. A big factor is the cost, and I did get a relatively good deal at State Farm for my ~500cc bike and after factoring in a few discounts. State Farm determines cost only by how many CCs (not cool). So for a bigger bike, I’d find better rates elsewhere, or I’d downgrade coverage. I’m not sure what would be best for you, and I’ve complicated matters for myself since I might be moving out to the Seattle area after Christmas. Let me know what you decide.

I was minutes away from Elwood, IL! I’ll have to check it out some time, but it doesn’t look like there’s much there. Oh well.
ilnamParticipantdoes it really suck that much? even for short rides? I don’t think I’ll ever do it myself, but I was just considering unfolding my rear pegs and hopping on the back while it’s parked – just to get a feel of it you know. I imagine I’ll be taking passengers next year.
ilnamParticipantI drive up to Grand Rapids, MI all the time and hope to ride up there eventually. I’d really like to work up to even longer distances, but my body is taking it’s time to work up the endurance. So you and your brother ride, but what about your husband?
ilnamParticipantit really didn’t look like my 07 gs500f could go with just a slip on. by the looks of it, a full system would be required and a rejet???
ilnamParticipantI live in Mokena and was on Laraway as well. Unfortunately, I didn’t see any chick on a LS 650. The only women I saw were on backs of bikes and one was riding but she was in a t-shirt and no helmet. I was going to try and put my ipass on my windscreen, but I’m not sure how well that will work or if I’m confident in the suction cup. After all, it has recently fallen in my car a few times, and i’d hate to be running down the tollway trying to find it/pick it back up. It might work in your pocket, but it shouldn’t be a big deal if it fails as long as you register your plates with your ipass account. I did mine online.
ilnamParticipantAt times I have the same issue with finding neutral and with getting into 1st on my 07 GS500F. And then yesterday I was upshifting from 2nd to 3rd and it didn’t get into gear property. The RPMs just shot up – I think that’s what they call false neutral.
ilnamParticipantIt was a great weekend in Chicago! Lots of motorcycles out including myself. I live in the far southwest suburbs so I went for a ride on “country” roads south of Joliet. Did you try 355? The extension is a very smooth tollway. I’m still putting off a ride into the city: I-80 to I-57 to I-94!
ilnamParticipantDo you use the chin strap? They could cut that, I suppose, or you could try locking the D bracket thingys instead. I didn’t think it would work at first – it’s sort of tight, but now I have the hang of it. I’ve also been considering this locking, slash proof helmet bag:

And if you hadn’t reinstalled windows, I’d give my best shot at recovering your data. too bad I’m not anywhere near you though
ilnamParticipantBalance and posture are important as well. And you’d want to be flexible enough to actually swing your leg over the bike without needing a crane to drop you onboard. Anyway, go ahead and get thinking about riding. I think you’re good to go, but I do always recommend good physical health in general too. Get your heart rate up for at least 20 minutes with some jogging and don’t forget some strength training. As you get older, you’ll really need to work on maintaining your muscle mass.
ilnamParticipantWelcome! Are you riding around in the City, commuting to work or what? When I was looking at the dealerships in Chicago, the think I hated most were the OTD prices. They were a lot higher than other places I heard about.
ilnamParticipantCool! Thanks for the link.
